#epitwitter How did AZ, FL, & TX reverse course on cases? All 3 states now showing sustained drop in daily cases. What changed?
Masks? Closing of businesses? Scary news reports? Something else?
Haven't seen good explanation.

Background
Following initial surge in cases & versions of lockdowns nationwide, most states have re-opened some or all businesses. This has led to rising cases & in sometimes huge surges (AZ, TX, FL & later CA; others now showing rises).
Different policies were enacted in different states & at different times as cases rose & hospitals got slammed. What made the difference in 3 surging states that are now on downward trend? None of them did full lockdown. What was it? I have hunches but would love to hear ideas.
CA is also on graph. I understand CA better b/c it's where I live. We have had mask mandate since June 18. 7/12 we closed bars, plus indoor dining, gyms, houses of worship, gyms and barbershops, theaters. 7/17 we said schools couldn't open in-person if on state watch list.
I'd love to hear what people think made difference since it matters a ton for policy. Please indicate whether the policy itself had a direct effect (e.g. masks reduced transmission) or an indirect effect (closing bars led to fewer house parties b/c people realized risk was high).
