Today is Tuesday, the day of the week on which Hanumanji is believed to have born. Reciting Hanuman Chalisa takes away all your problems and gives you confidence to face any challenge. We all (or almost all) know that Hanuman Chalisa was written by Sant Sri Tulsidas.

I was curious on why or what compelled Sri Tulsidasji to write Hanuman Chalisa and went on search for it (Google Gyaani here). And I found two narration giving possible reason for Sri Tulsidasji to write Hanuman Chalisa, sharing both of them here, please be kind enough to

read through before commenting.

1st Narration: Sant Sri Tulsidasji was an ardent fan of Prabhu Shree Ram and used to conduct bhajans (prayers) every evening, reciting Ramcharitmanas. He wanted to have darshan of Shree Ram and continued to perform bhajans with this aim.

One day, someone told him that Hanumanji attends his bhajans in disguise to hear Ramcharitmanas, he’s the first one to arrive and last one to leave. So, Sri Tulsidasji wants darshan of Prabhu Ram, he should put his request to Hanumanji. @HelloNNewman @wataboutery @Speakwithsense1

Because Shree Ram never rejects any request of his beloved and foremost devotee – Sri Hanuman.

Sri Tulsidasji was able to identify Hanumanji in the crowd of people attending the bhajan mandli and after the bhajan was over, he followed Hanumanji and at one place fell at his feet

and prayed him that he wants to have darshan of Prabhu Shree Ram. It is here that Sri Tulsidasji composed and recited Hanuman Chalisa.
Unfortunately, the person who wrote this, didn’t share the conclusion of the meeting.

2nd Narration: This is the time when Akbar was reigning over Delhi Sultanate, he heard many people praising Sant Sri Tulsidasji for his bhakti of Shree Ram and how he can also perform miracles. Akbar was intrigued and ordered his sepoys to bring Sri Tulsidasji to the palace.

When Sri Tulsidasji arrived, Akbar inquired whether it’s true that he can performance miracles. Sri Tulsidasji replied that the only miracle performer he knows of is Prabhu Ram. Akbar got irritated with this reply and ordered that Sri Tulsidasji be imprisoned for not @InfoVedic

being honest with him. It is during this imprisonment that Sri Tulsidasji wrote Hanuman Chalisa, recollecting and putting in words the strength & character that defined Sri Hanuman, who stood by Prabhu Shree Ram and how he helped Shree Ram in getting Maa Sita back from Lanka.

While Sant Sri Tulsidasji was writing Hanuman Chalisa, hoards of monkeys gathered and started disrupting daily Sabha of Akbar. Every passing day, the number of monkeys increased and the disruption would not stop till the end of the day. One of Akbar’s minister advised him that

this is happening because Sant Sri Tulsidasji is imprisoned that he should be set free. Hearing this, Akbar ordered that Sri Tulsidasji be released the next morning. And miraculously, there were no monkeys to disrupt the Sabha and Sri Tulsidasji walked away.

I personally believe the second narrative to be closer to truth, if not entirely true. My reason for saying so, I read that Sr. Advocate Keshav Parasaran ji – who lead the team of lawyers representing ‘Ram Lalla’ in SC last year, recounted an experience.

He said that on the day of the judgment, his Delhi residence had uninvited (albeit) pleasant visitors – hoards of monkeys, who did an impromptu dance. Here’s an article in OpIndia which mentions a brief reference to this incident.
