#COVID19Colorado: Gov. Polis is providing an update on the state's coronavirus response as the state sees a drop in cases following 6-week uptick.

In opening remarks, Polis says we’re doing better as a state, starting to see the impact of two things: Mask wearing, last call for bars and restaurants at 10 p.m. #COVID19Colorado

Polis: "Just because we are plateauing doesn't mean we're not still in a precarious position,” after stating Colorado’s R0 value (rate of infection) is 1 - meaning 1 infected person infects another.

Polis says he will attend the very first the very first high school game of the shortened season in the state, following the Colorado High School Activities Association’s announcement that high school athletics are back. Our story: bit.ly/39XzIbl

Polis says there are 2 ways #COVID19Colorado wins:

1. We get it, it destroys our health, overwhelms our hospitals.
2. It destroys our spirit - "can’t let it destroy our spirit just to save our lives,” Polis says.

Polis, citing Dr. Deborah Birx: "Anyone contagious with the virus is a super spreader at a big event,” mentions Weld Co. event that saw thousands attend in violation of the state’s public health order.

Gov. Polis says he's is doing a Spanish-only town hall for half-an-hour on Univision for folks “whose primary language is different than English.”

Polis speaking to young Coloradans:

"I know that what we're asking of you isn't easy, but it's important to put it in perspective that it's easier than what has ben asked of Americans in their 20s and 30s” in prior times.

He continued, “What we need to achieve here to defeat this enemy... is to be smart, avoid large roups, wear masks when we can.”

Asks people to avoid large parties and just hang out with a few friends, calls it “critical" for the success of Colorado and for America.

During Q&A, Polis is asked whether he would expect people to live how they have been for the past couple of weeks for a while.

“The way we’ve lived for the last few weeks, we need to be prepared to live for the next few months,” Polis says.

Polis says residents across the state have increased mask wearing from 70% to 90%.

“Coloradans are taking this seriously, and we need to continue to take this seriously for the next few months.”

Polis is asked how he’ll reach out to the Latino population, which the CDC says are hospitalized twice as much as whites from COVID-19.
