The feeling of inhabiting a body is fundamental for self-experience. Here, localisation of our body parts (e.g. hands) and the feeling of ownership over it are crucial. We wanted to know how different postures of hands impacts #BodyRepresentation.

We used the classic #RubberHandIllusion paradigm to investigate how children's perceptions of their own body were influenced by the match between a viewed fake hand and their own. Here, the posture of the fake hand either matched or did not match their own hand's
Across ages, fake hands in a matching posture yielded greater drift towards the fake hand (i.e. participants pointed more towards the fake hand). Body ownership ratings however we not affected by posture.

Hand posture does constrain #BodyRepresentation in children (similarly as for adults). Although childhood is a time of rapid changes in bodily dimensions and motor skills, 6-7 y'olds seen to have sensitive mechanisms for maintaining a sense of #BodilySelf.
