The feeling of inhabiting a #body is fundamental for self-experience. In adults, knowledge about possible body postures constrains #BodyRepresentation. Here, we test whether and how posture constrains body representation in 6-7 y’olds.
Using the #RubberHandIllusion paradigm, this study (N=180) assessed how children’s perceptions of their own body were influenced by the match between viewed and felt hand posture.
Across ages, fake hands in the same posture as the participants’ own hands yielded greater drift toward the fake hand. Body ownership ratings however were not affected by posture.
