I'm one of those oddballs who simultaneously thinks being a cop is one of the hardest, bravest, and most traumatizing jobs a human being can do AND thinks systemic racism infects American policing via training, workplace culture, and how criminal statutes are written and enforced
Multiple times today, in honoring what the Michael Brown case *led* to—a new anti-police-brutality movement and a finding of systemic racism in Ferguson's police department and court system—I was told that I think "all cops are bastards" when that's not anything I've ever thought
What I realized is Trump shifted the ground on criminal justice reform in a way no one thought possible: from a left-and-right debate on what sorts of reforms are necessary to a left-and-racist debate on whether *every piece of evidence* confirms systemic racism exists in the CJS

(THREAD) It's in Trumpists' interest to conflate the #SturgisMotorcycleRally and #BlackLivesMatter protests by arguing they're being covered differently—as to COVID-19 super-spreader-event fears—by a "liberal" media. The conflation is misplaced. I hope you'll read on and retweet.
1/ I agree US media does a poor job explaining why the #SturgisMotorcycleRally and #BlackLivesMatter protests are so very different, and that this failure feeds into the ability of Trumpists to say—to those not paying attention—that "liberal bias" explains the differing coverage.
2/ I just saw a CNN segment with @Acosta in which the excellent medical expert brought on for analysis didn't so much tick off or clearly delineate how #SturgisMotorcycleRally is *different* from other outdoor events as offer some factors that can *equally* apply to other events.

In a book of metamodern poetry I published on November 9, 2016 entitled GOLDEN AGE, I wrote that "reality is a unit of measure"—meaning that discrete reality streams can be commodified and marketed. Rolling Stone called me "a deep thinker and a philosopher."

And now here we are.
PS/ I'm not trying to get anyone to buy my poetry books. I don't care if anyone does; that's not the point. My point is that metamodern cultural theorists have for *years* imagined the rise of a politician who declares war on reality—a war postmodernists don't know how to fight.
PS2/ Those who think Trumpism is just about lying are wrong. It's about crafting discrete new reality streams that are hermetically sealed and contain their own past, present and future. They can then be exploited as commodities—and weapons. Yes—wars can be fought with realities.
