I apologize.

In 2016 I voted for HRC. Admittedly I was not her biggest fan. The difference in qualifications between her and her opponent however, was staggering.

On one hand, a former senator and Secretary of State, on the other:
A failed reality TV show host, a wannabe, clown, a racist, a sexual predator, an ignoramous quite possibly compromised by a hostile foreign power.

HRC wasn’t perfect; no one is. But compared to 45*? C’mon.

I knew the racists were coming out in force for 45*.
Racists voted for 45*.
Misogynists voted against HRC.

At its core, my inability to see how deeply ingrained sexism is in this country is akin to white people’s inability to fathom how deeply entrenched racism is in this country.
No matter how much feminist literature I immerse myself in, or how staunchly I attach myself to women’s causes, I’ll never really understand the forces and pressures women face every day, just for existing.

I’m sorry. I was wrong. I’m trying to do better.
Kamala is not a perfect candidate (no one is). There are plenty of legit grievances against her. I won’t argue or defend those; she’s more than capable of doing that for herself.

After four years of 45* the racists are bolder than ever.
The sexists are swarming, joining forces with racists, like misogynoir Voltron.

I respect everyone’s legit criticisms of Kamala, while acknowledging she’s about to become the most heavily scrutinized person in the history of US politics.

She’s not perfect.
But compared to what we currently have?

The difference is: she can (and will) be held accountable. The difference is: 5+ million people didn’t contract a novel virus under her watch, wrecking the economy. The difference is: she’s not an aspiring autocrat.
The difference is: she can spell.

The difference is: points screaming at every day of the past four years, every human rights violation, every act of corruption, every assault on democracy.

I ask like I asked four years ago with HRC: how is this even a question?
In 2016 I entirely underestimated how deeply sexist this country is.

I won’t make that mistake again. #KamalaHarris
