As a person of color in this country, everywhere I go I’m forced to consider if people around me wish me harm, or are okay with my being harmed.

So every time I find out people I know and love are okay with people who are okay with this, it’s a kick in the gut. /1
Complicity with complicity is complicity.

Last year I was profoundly hurt to hear a friend declare their intent to avoid conversing with their relatives about their continued support of an administration which is actively seeking to harm brown people.
It was 9am. I went outside, sat on the ground,
and cried.

I cried because if my friends—who know and love me, who consider me a friend, who say they want good for people of all backgrounds—won’t speak up for me:

Who will?

I REALLY need for MEN to think about this.
Because every time you don't speak up for women. Every time you don't hold your boys accountable.

Every time you defend a guy who's abusive, whether it's someone you know or a pubic figure. EVERY TIME YOU ARE SILENT.

It's a kick in the gut to women.
Not just women you know and love. Not just women you're attracted to. Not just your wives and daughters and sisters. Not just women you’re related to.

Women everywhere.
Women are exhausted from male desires being places over women's autonomy, from showing they deserve equal treatment under law, from have to prove their humanity to anyone.
Women can’t avoid systemic oppression, especially with the “conservatives” currently in power, who actively are trying to control women’s bodies.

We’re reliving the 1930s, where 1/3rd of the country would kill 1/3rd of the country, while 1/3rd stands idly by.
Which third are you? Who has to be hurt before you care enough to take a stand?
