Luckily, our experience wasn't as horrifying as the worst that's been described. But what I saw: Brutal, random beatings; psychological abuse; overcrowding (we were nearly 30 in a 10-man cell)

Thankfully I'm OK (COVID test pending). But can't stop thinking about my cellmates not lucky enough to be sprung by an embassy — everyday heroes who maintained their spirits amid brutality, cared for one another and embodied the spirit of "Жыве Беларусь!"
