Why reels cant be tiktok. My $0.02

Tittok content was more from “bharath” - bittu dance master who u didnt know of, yes they did have their share of celebrities too —> but content was lot less suvave. It got families to create content, it got friends to do random backchod,it was more timepass than inspiration. 2/n
Product- insta started with photos. Copied stories. DNA is very different for creating and editing videos.
Tiktok started video and audio first. Their video effects and editing are way more ahead of time than reels currently. 3/n

Algorithm- Instagram started as “follower led content”. You needed to have a network to have relevant content. (Twitter IMO makes this the hardest, thereby making it diff for new folks to join and be part of the platform). Tiktok approached it with a pov of 4/n
What if there was no network graph? How do we surface content algorithmically and learn from user? That is a massive difference in backend Architechture and from my limited experience- that scale of tech alteration can take ages in any org. advt $ next. 5/n
My guess is insta worked really well for brands that are influencer led, creator led or word of mouth - D2C brand, travel, fashion were hugely popular and so were luxury brands. tikTok on the other hand was grest for mass reach - Dettol, FMCG were some ads that i saw. 6/n
Given that tiktok also started with mass folks, the kinda content became questionable and u can see it seep into reels also. This would be interesting to see if this adds new audience or drives away existing audience. What are your thoughts on reels vs tiktok? Leaving u with 7/n
