Hey #Southlake, school is officially just one week away! Before #Dragons get ready to stuff their backpacks and go back to campus, here are a few things to know ahead of the new school year.

First of all, the district deliberated for a long time on what school would even look like in the fall. After @TarrantCountyTX ordered schools to be online-only until Sept. 28, the district thought they would be teaching remotely again at first.

That was before @KenPaxtonTX stepped in saying local health authorities could not close schools solely because of COVID-19. @LizzySpangler first reporting.

Then @Carrollisd offered an in-person instruction option, giving families the choice of whether to send their kids to school or have them learn at home. Over 56% of parents signed up for in-person instruction, according to district enrollment numbers.

If you opt to go online with the #DragonVirtualAcademy, however, you won't be getting any less of a stellar education. The district equipped 669 spaces with webcams over the summer so students could receive two-way instruction from their teachers.

But if your kids are going back to school in person, I'm sorry to say they're still going to have to wear masks. Per the county's extended mask mandate, everyone 10 and older is required to wear masks inside buildings until Aug. 31.

This isn't to say that there aren't going to be some risks involved. Three CISD staffers have already tested positive for COVID-19, but @Carrollisd has been proactive by releasing a #COVID19 dashboard that you can monitor on its #SAFEdragon website.

All this is to say the upcoming semester at #CISD is going to be unusual, to say the least. We know there's a lot of public safety concerns, but know that the district has been working tirelessly to make school as safe as possible for students and staff.
