Steve and Shiro first meet at akina Shiro’s family home pale Garden Estate. It was during the planning of Alvin and Waithera’s wedding. Shiro and Waithera are sisters. And Alvin and Steve are friends. Shiro’s dad is an ambassador in Bax’s govt, and her mum has flats everywhere.
In short akina Shiro have money; lots of money. If akina Shiro had a dog, it would be called Amani.

Shiro is coming out of an abusive relationship. She’s been hardcore all her life. Thanks to the absence of her dad most of her growing up life and the trashy boyfriends she's had.
Boyfriend’s that is. And as the big sister, of course kuna kale ka pressure because her boyfriend had even come to her folks with his folks.

But crap happens.

Steve on the other hand, is your regular serial businessman stroke entrepreneur. He has specific no job, no office.
He is Nakumatting his life. You need it he’s got it, or he knows a guy who can get it.

Steve has for the past 3 months portrayed himself as a very stable and level headed guy. And Shiro has been noticing. He was the chair of this wedding committee, and had pulled proper weight.
Running around doing his bits of the assignment, of course inflating costs here and there, and demanding a cut from all service providers. His plan all along is to try and get a deal from Shiro’s dad through Alvin.

During the planning, they’d bonded a bit, and they kinda's nini.
But Alvin had told Waithera to tell Shiro to avoid Steve at all costs. Wasichana hawasikiingi.

Anyway, after the wedding, during they evening party, after the at-risk age group had left, and it was debauchery o’clock, Shiro, after quite a good amount of gin and tonic, zikamshow.
She confronts her foreign bred boyfriend for dancing with some chic. This is the fight that will do the relationship in. Glasses are thrown, tears are cried and hearts are broken.

Tuseme Steve was at the right place at the right time. Yeye nani? Consolation hapa kule.
Steve sindikiza’s Shiro to the door of the house and then comes back to the party.

Next day, ka text. ‘Good morning. Umeamka poa?’

Text is replied huko past midday. ‘Just waking up.’

It's the opening ceremony of the texting olympic games that will continue most of the week.
On Saturday, next week, they meet for coffee, talk for a looooong while then they go separate ways.

Text beep. ‘Nimefika home.’
Steve: Nice. Ata mimi.

Chats continue. Coffee meet ups. Shiro opens up about how she does not want to go to her dad’s posting, and would rather stay.
She can handle some part of her folks business coz she really needs a break. And besides, it is the country of the now boyfriend past.

The bonding is really deep that eventually, Shiro sleeps over at ‘Steve’s.’ And because the human brain stops working when you are in love.
Shiro misses all the red flags that day. Like the house was really well done, but it looked like no one lived there. Alafu there was this specific oil painting of this chic that had been placed strategically in that house.

She asks who's house this really is?

Steve ni nani?
Mans akamshow this is a serviced apartment. His house was being repaired because the drainage was somehow spoilt. And his landlord got him this one for two weeks so that he doesn’t lose a very good tenant because he pays his rent lump some every quarter.

Say it with me. NAIROBI.
The biggest of all was that Steve insisted they get up early and go for breakfast pale kwa croissants.

‘I have a business meeting, let’s go for breakfast then I will drop you home.’

Msichana wa wenyewe akaharakishwa faster faster, akatolewa kwa nyumba speedy. They do breakfast.
Steve then he drive’s to Shiro’s in Garden Estate.

Wakifika Garden Estate.

Steve: Waaa… ebu nisaidie na soo mbili. I forgot to withdraw cash for a taxi.’
Shiro: [Kwani] Just use my car, and then bring it back.
Steve: Uko sure?
Shiro: You’d do the same for me.
Steve: Na fuel.
Boom. Shiro unleashes a fuel card, but under her dad’s name.

[The next day, Steve’s car will be ‘borrowed’ and it will be written off.]

Mans goes. Comes back a bit tipsy. They catch a bit, then he leaves. Again. With the car. Which was the top indicator that Shiro is all in.
And Steve reads it clearly. So now he's playing against what he keeps hearing about the exes.

He hits her with the Nairobi boys full folly pack in very quick succession:

1. I’ve been with a few girls but with you it is so different. You are mature. I can't believe this is real.
2. You are making me into a better man. I never thought I’d get here in life. Ata nataka kufanya Man Enough.

3. Aki Shiro, pleasesi unizalie mtoto ule anafanana na wewe. Kumlea haiwezi nishinda.

4. I’ve told my mum about you. And she says she feels like she already knows you.
5. Aki tungekutana 3 years ago, saa hii ningekuwa mbali.

6. I want to make your parents proud to have you as a daughter.
.
Shiro’s dad gets his final posting out of the country. He is willing to move with everyone. Si ni pesa ya serikali. Alvin and Waithera wame-settle hao.
Shiro is like, ‘I am finally settling down. Let me not mess this up with this mano.’

Dad will leave with Mum & Kui, the 16 years old ka-baby of the house. Mum is like, now you, you can’t live here alone in this big house. You can take one of the flats. One is vacant anyway.’
Remember Shiro has been drama all her life, so this is a leash.

Shiro and her mom’s cousin are in charge of the house. It has three cars. A Land Cruiser, Mum's Merc & Prado. TVs, Extra furniture, pool table, some valuables and documents etc. Just make sure everything is running.
One. Two. One. Two. Shiro has a flat. And then shortly she is pregnant.

The pregnancy makes Shiro vulnerable, Steve stops being there. My friend. Shiro tells her mum she is pregnant and her mum tells her dad. Mum says she moves in with Steve or Steve moves in.
Man Stivo says he's lost a job, so ni yeye ata-move in.

A month later, Shiro’s dad comes home and calls them to the house.

Niaje niaje, oooh ooh, Form ya hii dibobo mumeipangia aje? Mtaishi wapi, mtakula nini? Steve form yako ni gani kama man of the house juu sasa hauna works.
Steve: I am looking at my business options to diversify my portfolio.

Mans ata hana portfolio.

Shiro’s dad says, ‘Steve, enda ushow wazazi wako vile form imekuwa. Nataka kuongea na Matha Shiro, tuone vile tutaharakisha hii mambo.’

Vosti akastuka anatafuta mpenyo.
Lakini akacheza chini. ‘I am hoping we maliza hii pregnancy first juu condition ya Shiro si poa.’

The dad, amejam, then says ‘Sawa. You send us you parents’ numbers, Mama Shiro will talk to your mum.’

Akasema ata tuma.

Buda Shiro akawamaliza na, 'I am not interested games.
The pregnancy continues, and Nimmo is born. Steve’s mum never meets Shiro and, won’t meet Nimmo until much later. Ata kwa picha. According to Steve, daktari amesema she can’t travel. But as soon as things settle, tutaenda Bungoma.

By the time Nimmo is born the drama is too much.
The next three months are cool, because new baby. And then they go back to the fighting.

Shiro: Wewe, What’s the plan? What are we doing? Are you getting a job? It’s been a year? Hizi business and deals you re doing we never see the cash? Why do these chicks text and call you?
Huyu ni nani unamtumia MPesa? Why do your boys buy you clothes and shoes? How are you always drunk? Si ukatae pombe siku moja uitishe pesa ununulie mtoto wako ata diapers? When's the last time you bought anything in this house?

Mara Shiro goes home for peace of mind, on and off.
Steve on the other hand is fighting Shiro’s friends, and their place. He tells them not to come and to let her rest. They are stressing her. Watulie.

She almost believes her friends may not be good for her.

Shiro gets tired and appeals to her mom, who appeals to Steve’s mum.
Now the drama is, ‘Why are you telling mathe lies? You're emasculating me. Unataka niibe? Ama I leave? At least I am here with you. It’s those chicks that want me? You should be happy you have a man they want? I am here because I want to. I understand why your exes left you.
PS: Shiro gets a scolding from her mom on how she was taught better and she should not let this marriage thing fall apart. They have given her a second chance, and they dont want these games. Woman up and be a good mother to Nimmo and wife to husband. Usilete shame kwa family...
Steve’s mum na yeye she doesn’t seem to know what is this involvement with Shiro's mum. She wonders because Steve just told her, ‘it was an accident and this chic has my baby. Tutasaidiana kulea.’ Steve’s bro & sis are also trying to get through to the baby but anawa-block.
He tells them, ‘Hakuna kitu hapo. The baby was just came.’

Sasa kumewaka kuwaka. Kuna tension, and all Steve does is sleep, watch Arsenal lose, and then drink with his boys.

Shiro feels guilty, decides to nyenyekea kidogo, at least. She now want to salvage this thing herself.
She shares her cash when it is sent, and then she is the one buying him fresh clothes and shoes, mara a bottle of whisky etc. Because she is blaming herself for driving her man up the wall. So Steve is enjoying the life he wants.

Ka postpartum stress kanaingia full full.

Heh!
In the peace time, one day, some of Steve’s boys come to visit him, but wanakuja ni kama wana-ubaya. Shiro wants to find out who they are but he takes them outside.

Steve tells Shiro ati they want him to go out with them but he just wants to stay home. He is shaking meanwhile.
Steve tells Shiro, he has changed, even a pastor has prayed for him. He doesn’t even want to go out. He has a complete change.

Haya. Shiro’s mum organizes with her pals and chamas, wanataka kucugia Nimmo. She tells Shiro to tell Steve aambie wazazi wake wajipange na aunts pia.
The thingie will be done at the home in Garden Estate. The date is agreed. Plans kick off.

Monday, two weeks to the event, some mean looking guys come to visit Steve.

Shiro is worried because they look pissed. In fact Steve doesn’t seem to know who these guys are. He is shaken.
Later he says there’s a gig his friend have with sijui what investor for buying wheat anga sijui barley, he needs to travel on Tuesday, he’ll be back on Thursday. And it will be good cash that he can start taking responsibilities. And he needs to borrow a car aende nayo hiyo biz.
Shiro is like, ‘Sawa.’
Steve: Can I borrow the Merc?
Shiro: Ya mathe? Zii.
Steve: I just need to impress these guys.
Shiro: Kai wi na ngoma?

Somehow, because they are in a good place and she doesn’t want to be the one person who is not on her man’s side, she gives in.
But she reminds him, mathe will be coming this weekend and she will have to use the car. He thanks her and promises to do a good job nini nini.

He raukas, goes to Garden Estate. Shiro's mum's cousin refuses. Shiro calls and says niye amemtuma.

My friend...
