A thread on resources I find helpful for building accessibility into posters, sites, & slides: #ScienceTwitter

-Color Oracle (colororacle.org). Filters over your screen to approx how it would look to someone with a common color deficiency. Also has a grayscale feature.
- WebAim: Contrast Checker (webaim.org/resources/cont…). Checks if a foreground & background color combo is readable & meets the WCAG AA/AAA standard.
- WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool (wave.webaim.org). Checks elements of HTML code against accessibility standards.
Regarding WAVE, so many websites don’t include a language in their doctype definition. That’s how screen readers determine the lang. It’s super important! If your site is multilingual, you can redefine lang for a section. There’s also a WAVE extension: wave.webaim.org/extension/
- Color Safe (colorsafe.co). This site has palettes color palettes based on the WCAG guidelines.
- Alt Text Tester (chrome.google.com/webstore/detai…). A browser extension for checking if an image has alt text. (I personally like the WAVE extension more.)
- Infopage on presenting Google Slides with captions: support.google.com/docs/answer/91…
- Infopage on presenting Microsoft Powerpoint with captions: support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/p…

Note: there WILL be issues with the web-based live captions for technical words. If it’s being recorded, fix them.
YouTube is like 75% there with its auto captions, but it’s really not that bad to edit them. Block out the time to do it. Info on how to edit YouTube captions/timings: support.google.com/youtube/answer…
