New study out that #Trans "activists" and their allies will ignore:
"Cross-sex Hormones and Acute Cardiovascular Events in Transgender Persons: A Cohort Study" From the Conclusions:
"The patterns of increases in Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) and ischemic stroke rates among 1/x
transfeminine persons are not consistent with those observed in cisgender women. These results may indicate the need for long-term vigilance in identifying vascular side effects of cross-sex estrogen." And yes, this is is a legit study. Here are the authors: 2/x
Darios Getahun, MD, PhD, MPH; Rebecca Nash, MPH; W. Dana Flanders, MD, MPH, DSc; Tisha C. Baird, MD; Tracy A. Becerra-Culqui, PhD; Lee Cromwell, MS; Enid Hunkeler, MA; Timothy L. Lash, PhD; Andrea Millman, MA; Virginia P. Quinn, PhD; Brandi Robinson, MPH; Douglas Roblin, PhD 3/x
...I mean, this entire screed is a farce, but perhaps the most ridiculous part is the bit at the end about having to "mention evolution" in the first paragraph. I've read plenty of *actual scientific articles* on human sex & sexuality that don't mention evolution at all!
...it's like they're announcing to the world: "Hey, I obviously am not a scientist, but now I'm going to lecture you about what is science and what is not!"
a THREAD of all my essays related to current #transgender/GNC children debates. here is my most thorough piece: "Detransition, Desistance, & Disinformation" - it's a long read b/c this is a complex subject: medium.com/@juliaserano/d…
1/thread: Had a brain-shattering convo with a teen about #pronouns. I think many adults poo-poo 💩 the topic, but I [an adult by any measure] have some alternative thoughts🙋.
2/thread: Alot of what the teen said was hard for me to understand. Ie, sometimes the teen prefers she/her; other times they/them. I was like, "How do we know which? How do YOU know which?" 🤔I could understand why older, set-in-their-ways folks wouldn't at ALL get it👀.
3/thread: But THAT thought--how older generations were raised with pretty linear🙈, narrow🙉, "accepted roles" 🙊(for men & women; for Americans & "foreigners," etc) made a💡turn on for me.
@upandoutcomic 1/ Thanks for asking this, because the answers illustrate wonderfully how there are so many #trans#diversities, often experienced with such intensity.
@upandoutcomic 2/ My answer is like the stereotype few believe. Which is hard. And I remember it well too, which again few believe.
I was 2, & being pressed to "be a boy" for the 1st time, & not liking that. My dad & his mom were criticising me, & my mom for me not being "like a boy". It was…
@upandoutcomic 3/…1950, so no TV. There were no boys around - no neighbours, all my cousins girls. There was a family wedding, & they'd cut my hair for the first time, literally using a pudding basin, the night before. They'd put me in little tailored shorts, with an uncomfortable waistband,…
ICYMI last week I tweeted extensively about Jesse Singal's The Atlantic article, its biased framing, and his history of misrepresenting #trans people & the gender-affirming model - those threads are all compiled here: patreon.com/posts/19542136#LGBTQ#transgender
relatedly, I'm crowdsourcing for a future piece: looking for articles (like the recent Singal one) that call gender-affirming approaches into question, while at same time presenting a "balanced" veneer...
...you know the ones: "trans people exist & they should be respected, but the healthcare they are demanding is harming other kids and/or turning kids transgender!!!"...
this piece begins w/500 words on: 1) transgender is spectrum, 2) trans sub-categories aren't discrete, 3) trans trajectories are varied (& all are valid), 4) trans & cis are not mutually-exclusive (due to questioning ppl), 5) therefore cisgender is not a stable category
honestly, I don't know how anyone could write a realistic #trans/GNC #children article without stating all this from the get-go. unsurprisingly, Singal ignores most, if not all, of this. which is one of the reasons ppl find his piece so distorted/biased...
great, apparently another mainstream outlet just published another "but desistance" op-ed...ugh. btw, since ppl have been asking, not a single mainstream outlet has approached me about writing an informed response to @TheAtlantic piece...
...Here I will "live tweet" Singal's latest Atlantic article, which is in the same vein as the others. If I was teaching a journalism class, I'd use this latest article as an example of how to write a highly biased piece that comes across as "fair & balanced" as possible...
...and since people unfamiliar with this subject will no doubt be unaware of all the misinformation & biases at work here, I'm gonna do math to it! I'm dividing it into 14 sections, each of which begins with its own header (aka, giant capital letter)...
...Singal has purposefully slut-shamed & lied about me, + sicced social media mobs on me - he has a history of adding GG-hastags to his critiques of trans women (receipts in comments section). I know several other trans women who've had similarly bad experiences with him...
I’ve gotten more racism from that crowd in the past two weeks than I’ve gotten from any #RadicalFeminists in two months. Or any amount of time. Liberals routinely erase the radical #WomenOfColor from history who either called themselves #radfems or influenced radical feminism so
that they can call radical feminism “white”, misappropriate #Intersectionality from #BlackFeminism to try and justify including males in #feminism, argue that “transwomen are women the same way Black women are women”, (racist and dehumanizing comparison of black women to males),
1/ Transgender has never been considered a disorder; it has never been listed, & was coined to escape medical listing. #Transsexualism (the diagnosis for medical treatments to change body characteristics 🖼️, which most TG people don't want) & Gender Identity Disorder were…
2/… listed, wrongly as mental disorders. The later is rewritten as Gender Dysphoria, a diagnosis for counselling (which most TG people don't need). The proposal is to move them, in WHO #ICD, to a sexual health section, but some activists also want #transsexualism erased…
3/… & prepubertal #trans children denied any diagnosis. We suspect they were people who never needed the protect & reassurance of a diagnosis as a child, perhaps don't believe such children exist, & don't themselves want medical treatment to change their bodies.
It is *not* a "total reversal" of his beliefs for *all* #Trans ppl. Your selective reading of the page is very telling and is representative of the mentality & intentions common among Trans "activists/allies." Altho this case and perhaps your own perspective are not nearly the1/x
most egregious, they are still problematic. Anyone reading your tweets would likely believe that Hakeem does not believe in psychotherapy for *any* #Trans ppl, which is clearly not the case. It is like those who ignore that @BlanchardPhD & @profjmb are among the strongest 2/x
advocates of #Trans ppl, including supporting their desire for SRS--in adulthood. In short, you/others frame the narrative in such a self-serving and selective/biased/distorted manner. For instance, 1) there is still *no* evidence that being "Trans" is "normal" in any way, 3/x
This is just one person's story: . Ask yourself what kind of person *ignores* such realities or refuses to acknowledge that the claim that such people comprise only 2-4% of the population is based on the bullying/intimidation committed by #Trans 1/x
"activists" against anyone who dares speak out like this brave young woman. We know this bullying/intimidation extends to "#Trans" people, to their families, and to any researcher or clinician who would like to study such important issues (e.g., ). I 2/x
really hope that *reasonable* and *honest* people will appreciate just how ignorant, "deluded" (n.a.d.), self-serving, "narcissistic" (n.a.d.), misguided, self-righteous etc. someone has to be to ignore the realities that I and my guests have conveyed in my numerous videos. I 3/x
After dealing with #Trans "activists" for the past few days (if anyone wants to subject my multi-tweet threads to the "roll up the app" or whatever it's called, as you did earlier today, I would appreciate it), and seeing the same attitude, tactics and sleight of hand each 1/x
time, let me show you one more reason why I am doing what I am doing, even though it's taking up all of my time: . This is a mother who has heard from many parents whose experiences w/"gender affirming therapists" is much different from what the 2/x
aforementioned #Trans "activists" would have you believe. *They* will never accept the reality of these stories b/c they are too *personally* invested in their ideology and their *personal* "cause." Now, some of these "activists" will claim I am merely engaging in ad hominem 3/x
For anyone who has read my extensive tweets and *still* inexplicably does not understand my concerns abt #Trans ideology and “activists”—which suggests you are unintelligent, ignorant and/or blinded by a hateful and/or self-serving ideology/agenda—let me draw some parallels 1/x
that might help explain: If I were an MD and I knew the sugar lobby was lying abt cholesterol, I would be exposing this far and wide. I would do the same if the APA was pushing conversion therapy for gays and I could show it is harmful to them (this was before my time but I 2/x
do talk about such things in my classes). More recently, before the DSM-5 came out, I gave many MSM interviews highlighting the concerning process and some of the proposed (potentially) problematic disorders. The point is, psychologists have an ethical duty to serve society 3/x
People in power define social identities as they have the means to control the narrative – news coverage, platforms to broadcast their platforms, & the power to influence law enforcement and legislation. Social identity affects how people perceive themselves and others. 3
"I'd like to take a few minutes of your time to warn you about a dangerous psychiatrist at Fenway Behavioral Health, Dr. Howard Hernandez. I apologize for not writing this sooner, but I didn't feel ready to share this until now."
"About thirteen months ago I saw Dr. Hernandez for the first time. It was an initial intake visit, so much of our time was taken up by completing my history."
Last Nov/Dec, I was homeless. @realDonaldTrump had just been elected. I was living in my car. I was cold. I was hungry. The pain from my chronic lower back issues was horribly bad, every moment of every day (1/x)
Sleeping in my car was making it worse. I could barely stand, let alone go grocery shopping or walk longer than about 10 min, w/o being totally wiped out for the next day or 2. I was receiving no medical treatment for being #trans, for my #AtrialFibrillation or my back pain (2/x)
I was unemployed, had no degree, didn't pass, and I was severely depressed.
Only a few ppl know this, but I think it's time to talk about it. I almost died last December. I didn't have much $, but I was doing research on the best methods to kill myself that'd be effective (3/x)
