These pitches by Mayor Strickland and some city council members suggesting that they are concerned about "voter suppression" or people being "stripped of their right to vote" simply can't be seen as sincere. They're actually laughable if you think about it...+
How many times in 2019, 2018, 2017 or 2016 did they host voter registration or voter education events? Where is their record of advocacy for voters rights? Do they support automated registration? What about restoration of rights for those with felony convictions?...+
How have they engaged in (or dismissed) efforts to get more people involved in the political process? Where are their receipts?

Without them, these statements ring out as hollow talking points. And my hunch is that they feel confident they can mislead...+
...and manipulate messaging for the November election (whether it's true or not isn't the point here). They would pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into efforts to fear-monger with hopes that the general public would sign off on what they've already voted against (twice)...+
...and who they've elected to represent their interests. This is actually a pattern.

Since they are so concerned about voter suppression and empowerment I want to personally ask they pledge their support to UPTheVote901 as we continue to work to increase voter turnout...+
...in EVERY ELECTION... and I'm sure they'll be willing to participate in our future Memphis People's Conventions that are on the horizon... Right?
