Today is #WorldPhotographyDay, and in honor, I wrote an article today about some of the #photos and #photojournalist of #WWII.

Some of the most iconic photos in the world to this day, are photos taken during World War II. Here are some of the photos that I chose to highlight.
Robert Capa’s “Magnificent Eleven” from D-Day. He was on Omaha Beach during the invasion, and only eleven photos survived. For his work, Robert Capa was awarded the Medal of Freedom in 1947 by U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Margaret Bourke-white is the first woman war photographer and first Westerner allowed to photograph in the Soviet Union. Her photos of the liberation of the camps of the Holocaust are some of the most iconic images of the twentieth century. #ww2 #WorldPhotographyDay
Joseph Rosenthal was born to Russian Jewish immigrants in D.C. Joe Rosenthal is a Pulitzer Prize winner for the #ww2 photograph, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima.

When asked about his iconic photo he would reply “I took the picture; the Marines took Iwo Jima.” #WorldPhotographyDay
Toni Frissell was well known for her photographs of military women, nurses, and the Tuskegee Airmen. These photo were used for public support of women and African Americans during the war. #ww2 #WorldPhotographyDay
Wayne Miller served as a photographer with the United States Navy Combat Photo Unit. He was one of the first photographers who captured the destruction and devastation of Hiroshima following the drop of the atomic bomb Little Boy. #ww2 #WorldPhotographyDay
Carl and Shelley Mydan were the first husband and wife team to be employed by Life Magazine. They were POWs in Manila and then China for two years before release.

Carl Mydan captured the signing of the Japanese surrender aboard the U.S.S. Missouri. #ww2 #WorldPhotographyDay
Lee Miller was an American photographer and photojournalist working for Vogue during #ww2.

After leaving Dachau, Miller broke into Hitler’s apartment, smeared the mud from Dachau concentration camp into his bath mat, and soaked in Hitler’s tub. #WorldPhotographyDay
