Human Vs AI is about to start.

Interestingly, Lockheed's AI bot lost the competition in the Finals where they had pitted F16 against F16 against a AI bot called Heron (must be from a small company, as the Final was being called David vs Goliath match).
Ha. The AI "agent" (as they are called) by Heron systems has defeated a highly qualified Human F16 pilot by 5-0...!!

The Heron AI Agent has displayed absolutely incredible nose pointing ability and getting the target in the gun firing cone which made the competitors,
whether AI or Human to shake it off very difficult.

Yes, this is bit simplistic settings and the Human pilot is a bit disadvantaged having to virtually fly the Fighter, but then the AI bots are also relatively primitive.

Great insights generated from the whole program which
probably couldn't have been gained by only theoretical means. The AI seems to be opening up the minds of the pilots who have typically been thinking in a set framework which is incrementally refined by their predecessors over decades. For example, as explained by the pilots
Involved in the program, that they typically have a set way of training where BFM is broken down into some basic pieces and then taught to the trainee pilots who then can combine them to develop the tactics. While some of the AI teams had pilots consulting them incorporating the
Classic BFM philosophy in the intelligence of the bot on one side of the spectrum, some teams didn't even have a concept of dogfight in their AI agents at all...!! All they were trying to do was to achieve the target of putting the adversary fighter in the gunsight, without
actually telling them all the basic concepts of dogfighting. While the first approach obviously has advantages in the sense that the Pilots can impart very realistic experience/training to the AI agents right from the starting so they would function better in real life (as opposd
to the very simplistic guns only scenario simulated for this competition), the second approach or the mix of the two throws some unexpected tactics which might defy conventional BFM thinking. This may actually lead to a situation where an AI bot in future may train Human pilots
with very unusual tactics developed for specific scenarios.

There were quite a few other insightful pointers that came up in the discussions happening in the sidelines of the competition. Thats 2-3 hours very well spent.

10 yrs down the line things gonna get really interesting.
