/ I publish over 2,000 words a week. Here's how I do it.

/ I wrote my first essay on April 14th. The goal was to write about brand strategy twice a week. The first post was about Jeni's Ice Cream.

/ The post wasn't that good. However, a few people liked it and told me they looked forward to seeing my next piece. So I continued to write.
/ As I began to write more and more, I started to develop a specific style. My best pieces of content would combine current events with a timeless idea. My one piece about @barstoolsports took off and I doubled down on that idea.

/ It was amazing to see my content grow. I started with 57 email addresses and by April 31st had 136 email subscribers. My list increased by 138% in two weeks.
/ I would typically have a list of ideas throughout the week, but I always ended up throwing out those ideas and starting from scratch the night before.
/ I would read about the topic, create a thesis, have 3 supporting statements, and then start writing. I'd write in the @HemingwayApp to ensure my writing stayed concise. I would use @Grammarly for grammar.

/ I was getting better and better but decided to hire a writing coach, @randaldoane. The best athletes in the world hire coaches. If I want to be the best, I need to work with someone to help me get there.

/ Randal helped me make subtle changes to my writing. Those changes compounded over time and made a huge difference in my writing. I would make my verbs active, use headings, use em-dashes, but more importantly, Randal helped me find my niche.
/ As I worked with Randal, the recurring theme of my writing focused on helping brands grow their audience and capture attention. He helped me discover this and I settled on the Attention Economy.
/ The biggest secret to my writing process is the amount I write. I see all these books and courses promising how to become a better writer. The biggest secret no one wants to tell you about is practice.
/ Practice writing as much as possible. Put in the reps. It doesn't matter if you publish or not. The more you write the better you become. Don't worry about a niche. Write for an audience of one and scale from there.
