Today, we honor #WomensEqualityDay & the movement that helped adopt the #19thAmendment into the U.S. Constitution 100 years ago. We’re thankful for the countless women who paved the way, while we acknowledge that too often Black women were erased from their role in this progress.
Black women actively worked to fight for their right to vote.
There were even suffrage schools for Black women who could prepare for a chance to register by studying how to pay poll taxes and how to take a literacy test. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…
Leaders like Mary McLeod Bethune registered & mobilized Black voters that soon outnumbered that of white voters and in the fall the KKK marched on Bethune’s boarding school for Black girls.
We grapple with the fact that while the #19thAmendment opened the doors for some women, voting rights obstacles for Black women remained.
As we honor the progress we’ve made, we acknowledge just how much further we’ve to go.
In 2020, Black communities continue to face barriers to voting — we must take action to ensure that democracy is accessible for all.
Because of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper.
Because of Mary Ann Shadd Cary.
Because of Mary Church Terrell.
Because of Nannie Helen Burroughs.
Because of Ida B. Wells.
Because of countless unsung heroes.
Women can vote. But the fight continues.

Today, we recognize the strong impact the #LaborMovement has and continues to make for workers' rights in our country.
As we reflect this #LaborDay, we realize there is much work still needed to further protect unions and workers' rights.
Strong unions built the American dream for families all across the country.
We owe the 40-hour work week, paid leave, health care protections, and a collective voice in the workplace to workers who organized unions and fought for protections.
From the Industrial Revolution to the Civil Rights Movement, we have seen a significant change in workers' rights.
The fight continues – President Trump and Republicans have waged war on organizing, collective bargaining, and workers across this country.
COVID. Economic devastation. Chaos and violence. Donald Trump has consistently made things worse for the American people.
@JoeBiden shared his vision for restoring justice and safety for all Americans.
Check out these highlights:
.@realDonaldTrump has failed the American people. He uses violence & hate as his foundational tools to sow seeds of division.
"This president long ago forfeited any moral leadership in this country. He can’t stop the violence – because for years he has fomented it." — @JoeBiden
"Since they have no agenda or vision for a second term.
Trump and Pence are running on this:
‘You won’t be safe in Joe Biden’s America.’
And what’s their proof?
The violence we’re seeing in Donald Trump’s America." — @JoeBiden
Equality, fairness, and justice are foundational American ideas. But even though we have yet to fully live up to those ideals, we will never stop trying.
Too many people are incarcerated in the United States, and too many of them are Black and Brown.
We need to reform our criminal justice system.
We need to build safe and healthy communities.
We need to make sure that we help formerly incarcerated individuals get health care, education, jobs, and the housing they need to successfully rejoin society.
The Biden Plan for Strengthening America’s Commitment to Justice is based on core principles:
1. We must reduce the number of people incarcerated in this country while also reducing crime.
2. Our criminal justice system must be focused on redemption & rehabilitation.
It’s time for a little #TBT! We’re celebrating the launch of #MomsForBiden with some of our favorite Team Joe staff moms. They’ve shared some of their favorite photos, values that are important to their families, and why they’re all #MomsForBiden ⬇️
“We are a family that loves all and we encourage kindness. I'm a Mom for Biden because he brings me hope for a better America. He knows the importance of unity and the benefits that togetherness brings.”- Andrea, Director of Accounting
“I'm trying to raise my girls with kindness, courage, and a sense of civic responsibility. I’m a Mom for Biden because I want my daughters to be proud of our nation — and grow up with the schools, health care, and climate they deserve.”- Amber, Speechwriter
