NEWS: The @DelhiPolice personnel were complicit & an active participant in the #DelhiRiots. In the last 6 months not a single investigation has been opened into the human rights violations committed by the Delhi police -before, during & after the violence. amn.st/6010Gopyr
These violations include:

⚠️police officers indulging in violence with the rioters
⚠️torturing in custody
⚠️using excessive force on protesters
⚠️refusing to register FIRs
⚠️dismantling sites of peaceful protests
⚠️being mute bystanders as rioters wreaked havoc.

#DelhiRiots
The riots in North-East district of Delhi claimed the lives of 53 people, majority of whom were Muslims, & injured more than 500.

The first step towards ensuring justice for the survivors is to end the impunity that prevents @DelhiPolice personnel from being held accountable.
“This ongoing state-sponsored impunity sends the message that the law enforcement officials can commit grave human rights violations and evade accountability. That they are a law unto themselves,” said @Avinash_1_Kumar, Executive Director of Amnesty International India.
Delhi witnessed 2 major communal violence incidents in 4 decades - the 2020 riots & the 1984 Sikh massacre. A common link between the incidents is the human rights violations committed by the @DelhiPolice.

The repetition of such violations points towards a climate of impunity.
