2/3 The Rules do not ascribe any other function to NPR other than assisting with d preparation of the NRC. Rule 4 of the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003 provides for the preparation of d National Register of Citizens (NRC).
3/3 More than 1.9 million people were left out of the Assam NRC. The NRC has led to the loss of work, strain on family life, emotional and psychological impact, loss of liberty through detention. We must learn from what is happening in Assam and not repeat this across India.
