TITLE: ROOTS & FRUITS

Recap: Roots are symbolic of stability while fruits are symbolic of prosperity. Roots are essential for survival- supplying strength, support.

Recap: In the parable of the sower, the fruits produced was dependent on the kind of ground the seeds fell and this is symbolic of the states of our heart. God looks beyond the surface and always considers the state of our hearts.

Today, we begin to consider what is essential for fruitfulness ( John 15:16). God intends that we bring forth fruit that will remain. It is His utmost plan that the righteous man brings forth fruit even in old age (Psalm 92).

Things that are essential for fruitfulness:
1. Growth: This ensures stability and fruitfulness. There are different levels of growth (Hebrews 5:13-14). We need to work towards growth in our faith, in understanding of God's word.

God has given us gifts for the edifying of the body, to grow to the stature of the measure of the fullness of Christ. (Eph 4:12-16, 2 Corinthians 3:18). The level of Christ you reflect is a measure of how much you've grown so EXAMINE YOURSELF.

Signs to look out for to determine your level of growth;
a. Cravings for God's word
b. Availability for service
c. Impact and influence on others

Things essential for fruitfulness:
2. Nurturing (Luke 13:1-9): To bring forth fruit, nurturing is essential. It is not enough to keep growing, nurturing is important.

Make every effort to add to your faith and nurture it (2 Peter 1:5-8).

Make up your mind to always encourage yourself either you're high up there or at your lowliest moments. By all means, ensure that you're making progress.

Things that are essential for fruitfulness
3. Pruning (John 15:1-2). God desires that we bring forth more fruits. Your present level of fruitfulness doesn't hinder you from bearing more but to qualify for bearing more fruits, we need to be PRUNED.

Pruning determines the size, shape and fruits.

There are different levels of consecration
i. Salvation: free gift for all.
ii. Sanctification: Comes as a result of our level of yieldedness to His instructions and tainings.

Let God work upon your life and make your life better. God using you the first time isn't a big deal, staying relevant is more delicate.
