About Us (1/12 thread):
For 10 years we’ve been reporting on the failures of our #MN criminal justice system (CJS) that continuously spins repeat and violent offenders through the revolving door—often with eventual tragic results and always at great cost to victims and society.
Our focus is and always will be on providing information to create public safety awareness and education about how our system works (or doesn’t), and to spotlight the critical need for real justice for victims of crime.
We post daily about crime incidents in our neighborhoods, most of which are never reported in media & most of which you’ll never hear about from police or city administration. The incidents range from thefts to burglaries to assaults to purse snatchings to shots fired &much more.
Granted, media can’t possibly report on every incident that happens, that’s understandable. But, often, what they choose NOT to report is a problem. They choose NOT to educate the public about our system failures, & they choose to soft-pedal or ignore certain crime issues.
We’ve documented hundreds of times when media has “reported” on criminals or incidents only to leave out some of the most crucial details involving criminal histories of perpetrators & how they’ve been spun through the system time and again without being held accountable.
For this reason (and more), we made the conscious decision to stop sharing MSM links nearly a year-and-a-half ago. You will not see their links on our Twitter or our several FB pages. We will not support MSM & have proven them to be compliant in keeping the public in the dark.
We’ve also raised the alarm over the years about the continual removal & erosion of easy public access to critical public safety information & crime data. Our position is that we’re being wholly underserved by our leadership in terms of access to critical information.
We regularly call out media for their failures to report & their failures to educate the public about what really happens in our CJS. And we’ve regularly called out politicians on all sides of the aisle who fail to take up meaningful CJS reform that holds criminals accountable.
We shine light on uncomfortable facts. We have opinions and we express them. That’s specifically why this Crime Watch network was launched 10 years ago: To inform, to educate, to create action and to push for change for real public safety and justice for victims.
Our work and often blunt viewpoints have resulted in a long list of people and organizations that despise what we’re doing and want to shut us down. We’ve been dealing with it since the beginning & it continues today.
You will see attacks on us, you will see accusations against us. One activist “reporter” who is obsessed with us is currently working on his theory that we’re part of a deep conspiracy to brainwash you🙄.
We ask that you look deeper, beyond kneejerk accusations and rhetoric of the day. We ask that you also hold media, politicians and our systems accountable and demand truth, change and access to information.
