2️⃣The British Mandate Authority appointed Kamil al-Husayni as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, al-Husayni a soufi Ottoman clergyman that the British referred to him as "the representative of Islam in Palestine and a member of the oldest nobility of the country"

3️⃣ The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was related to Musa al-Husayni the Governor of a series of Ottoman municipalities and regions. These included Safed , Akkar, Irbid ,and a short lived reign as govner of Asir , Najd , Thalis (Turkey), Hauran (Syria)

4️⃣ He played a major role in the Ottomans campaigns against Saudi Arabia before he became Governor of the al-Muntafaq region of Iraq, Mayor of Jerusalem and the later leader of the Palestinian national movement, I will cover him further in future threads.

5️⃣ We return to the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem who was the son of Al-Husayni was the son of Mohammed Tahir al-Husayni, who had preceded him as Mufti of Jerusalem, some historic documents claim he was "Hanafi", the reality is Hanafi's and Soufis are two different types of people .

6️⃣ The British appointed him chairman of the Appeal Courts and later director of the Higher Waqf Committee. The British also made him a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG).

7️⃣ Al-Husayni was succeeded by his son Mohammed Amin al-Husayni, education in Ottoman Islamic, and Catholic schools, he went on to serve in the Ottoman army in World War I.
At war's end he stationed himself in Damascus as **a supporter of the Arab Kingdom of Syria**.

⚠️Labeling Al-Husayni as a supporter of the Arab Kingdom of Syria is like labeling a Nazi General as a friend of the Jews, so that's another historical piece of information that makes no sense

8️⃣ Following the Franco-Syrian War and the collapse of Arab Hashemite rule in Damascus thanks to the Pan Arabs to General Yusuf al-Azma and his forces of 4,000 regulars, Bedouin cavalrymen, civilian volunteers ,

9️⃣ Alhosayni's early position on pan-Arabism intensified to a form of Northern Arab nationalism for and he moved back to Jerusalem, his infatuation with the National Socialist ideologies didn't show at first as he like his father served the British .

🔟From as early as 1920 he actively opposed Zionism, and was implicated as a leader of the 1920 "Nebi Musa riots".
Al-Husseini was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment for incitement but was "pardoned" by the British.

⚠️ The British role during the British Mandate was detrimental to both Arab and Zionist inhabitants of Palestine as it did close to nothing to put to rest the flaring tensions between both parties.

💡Getting my hands on historical depositions from both sides and reading between the lines can teach us alot of what was really going on

1️⃣1️⃣Al Husayni's opposition to the British stems from what I can presume is the British going back on their words and not awarding Al Husayni any domain in return for his services, adding to that the rise of National Socialist ideologies in Syria and Palestine between 1936–1939

1️⃣2️⃣ The poor handling of the Arab revolt in Palestine by the British, Syrian Social Nationalist Party successful in operating in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Palestine, Its advocacy for the establishment of a Syrian nation state spanning the Fertile Crescent

💡The very brutal nature of French Mandate pushed alot of Arabs to desperation, which was capitalized on by the Nazis and gave rise to the Nationalist Socialist ideology.
The SSNP was founded by Antun Saadeh, a Lebanese journalist and lecturer from a Greek Orthodox family

💡He had lived in South America from 1919 to 1930, in November 1932 secretly established the first nucleus of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, which operated underground for the first three years of its existence.
⚠️The party is still active and allies with the Syrian regime

1️⃣3️⃣ During the period 1921–1936 Al Husayni was considered an important ally by the British Mandatory authorities that allowed him to have his own forces and expand his influence .

1️⃣4️⃣ In 1937, evading an arrest warrant, he fled Palestine and took refuge successively in the French Mandate of Lebanon and the Kingdom of Iraq, until he established himself in Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany.

1️⃣5️⃣On meeting Adolf Hitler he requested backing for Arab independence and support in opposing the establishment in Palestine of a Jewish national home.

1️⃣6️⃣ At the end of the war he came under French protection, and then sought refuge in Cairo to avoid prosecution for war crimes.

I need your input on why the French protected Al Husayni from facing what he deserves in the WW2 war crimes tribunal.
