Donald Trump admitted to Bob Woodward in a recorded interview that he knowingly and intentionally lied about the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic

Nearly 200,000 Americans have died since he said these words.
washingtonpost.com/politics/bob-w…
Trump's recorded audio, on the virus that has killed nearly 200,000 Americans:

"It's not just old people, it's plenty of young people..."

"Well I think Bob, really, to be honest with you, I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down."

Donald Trump has spent six months publicly blaming China for duping him about the effects of the coronavirus. But behind the scenes, he admitted he had been given stark warnings directly by Chinese President Xi Jinping, warnings he totally disregarded.
Trump's Director of National Intelligence, Dan Coats, a former Republican Senator from Indiana who I served with on the Joint Economic Committee and still respect, held the personal belief that grew over time "that Putin had something on Trump."
On February 7, Trump told Bob Woodward that he understood the virus is a "very tricky situation" because it is airborne. He said it was "more deadly than your seasonal flu."

But he told the American people it would soon "become weaker and then gone" in warmer weather.
Trump to Bob Woodward, March 19, 2020: "I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down."

Trump to the American people, March 19, 2020:
*As @atrupar notes, this video is actually from February 26, roughly halfway in between the recording of Trump telling Bob Woodward the virus is "deadly stuff" on February 7 and Trump saying "I still like playing it down" on March 19. cnn.com/2020/09/09/pol…

2020 has been a tough year, but in Virginia we do have a lot of good news to celebrate thanks to new leadership in Richmond which has gotten some great things done.

Consider this extraordinary, historic record of progress:
1/
The minimum wage is going up. This will take time, but it has been a long time coming. 2/
LGBTQ Virginians are getting important protections, finally. 3/

NEW: 17 House Dems on @WaysMeansCmte are seeking clarity on the Administration's bewildering, chaotic rollout of Trump's payroll tax order.

The business community rejected the order as "unfair," so of course Trump is making federal workers participate–

The order itself is a bad gimmick that won't help anyone.

For businesses that participate, workers would see a temporary increase in paychecks until December and then a bigger decrease in paychecks in January to fool people into thinking Trump is helping until the election. 2/ Image
The business community hates this (they call it "unworkable"), especially because the Treasury Department's guidance said if employees leave their employer before 2021 (for instance seasonal workers) employers are still required to somehow recoup deferred payroll taxes. 3/ Image

It's been a month since Senate Republicans cruelly allowed Americans' enhanced unemployment benefits to expire amid a pandemic and economic crisis.

Don't be fooled by the stock market: millions of families are experiencing deep hardship. Warning signs for the economy abound. 1/
When the White House walked away from negotiations after a self-imposed deadline for a new relief deal, Trump put out some flimsy, misleading executive orders on the economy.

They have proven worse than useless, as Republicans used them for an excuse not to take real action. 2/
Take the unemployment order. Secretary Mnuchin announced benefits would reach people "immediately," then backpedaled and said it would take "a week or two." Two weeks later just two states with less than 10% of unemployed workers have paid benefits. 3/

The Administration made operational USPS changes and big declines in service followed, but House Republicans are opposing fixes for the US Postal Service today because they claim it's all a "conspiracy theory." They just can't agree on the conspiracy.

Republicans in disarray– 1/
House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy: "the Postal Service is being 'sabotaged'" is a "myth."

Donald Trump on FoxNews: I am sabotaging the Postal Service to prevent people from voting by mail
2/
Donald Trump and congressional Republicans: the USPS is losing billions of dollars

House Republicans: Democrats made up funding issues, it's totally fictional and no additional USPS funding is needed

So many of you are writing, calling, and urging us to act to protect the US Postal Service.

We share your anger and frustration about what Trump is doing and your alarm about what it could mean for the election.

And we ARE working to stop him.

Some things worth following: 1/
After hearing of suspicious changes at USPS, House & Senate Dems immediately sought an Inspector General investigation.
cnn.com/2020/08/07/pol…
We just learned that the IG *is* investigating.

@GerryConnolly is trying to speed it up:
Investigations in the House and Senate, including hearings, ARE coming.

I want this to move faster because it is so urgent, but we are working on oversight of this right now. 3/

This is ridiculous dishonesty from Republican negotiators.

Let's get a few things clear.

This is happening because when House Democrats passed an extension ten weeks ago Senate Republicans said they needed a "pause." Then they didn't do a single thing until it was too late. 1/
Then they introduced a bill that is terrible, stupid, and unworkable. Even the Republicans hate their own bill, there is nearly universal agreement that it is bad policy.

Enormous cuts to unemployment benefits in the middle of a pandemic are heartless! 2/
The Republicans are playing with the lives of 30 million people not to mention the recovery of the entire US economy and their logic is HORRIBLE.

McConnell is refusing to negotiate over protecting corporations from lawsuits that aren't even happening: 3/ politico.com/news/2020/07/2…
