Want to know what Boris Johnson’s £100 billion ‘moonshot’ programme will buy? Check out secret briefing pack. £100 billion = load of language ripped off Silicon Valley, a suite of totally untested technologies & a plan we have no idea - none! - if it’ll work. Oh. And ££££ to ????
Bear in mind this is £100 billion - £100 billion! - govt Is preparing to spend on public health project that is ‘devoid of any contribution from scientists, clinicians, and public health and testing and screening experts’

But look at the pretty diagrams!
bmj.com/content/370/bm…
This is a government in thrall to Silicon Valley. That believes tech can magic up a quick fix. Even if that tech has yet to be invented. Or as doc points out ‘developing, validating, procuring, and operationalising testing technology that currently does not exist’
But don’t worry! It’s only going to cost almost as much as the entire annual budget of the NHS! This totally untested plan announced yesterday = £100bn. Cost of every doctor, nurse, cancer op, surgery, medicine, GP, cleaner, the whole lot = £133 billion. We are in crazyville
This remember is a proposal from a team that after months has still failed to deliver a functioning ‘test & trace’ system. That too has Deloitte at its heart. And it doesn’t work. But still. Chuck another £100 billion at it.

KLAXON! Facebook newsroom has announced a new research project on 2020 election. By Sir Nick Clegg.

‘One of the much debated questions around social media is: what impact does it have on democracy’

NO. SHIT. SHERLOCK
How furious does this post make me? Let me count the ways.

‘Facebook has helped fight interference in more than 200 elections since 2017’

WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK?
‘As a company we looked hard at what went wrong with Russian interference in 2016’

OH. PLEASE.

Hard?!? You turned over some limited material when forced by congress. You have taken zero responsibility. And ‘Russian interference’ was only 1 single strand. What about the rest??

The ICO's investigation into Cambridge Analytica was genuinely ground-breaking. See below: 'Data crimes are real crimes.' We've been hanging on for the final report. But today, we learned it will not come. Why?? It's deeply odd. Has the @ico been sat on?
theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/j…
This was a difficult, highly politically charged subject to investigate. And it was bold & brave to take it on. We've witnessed abject resistance to tackle politically sensitive matters from other bodies, most notably the Met police. So this is especially disappointing.
The Senate Intelligence Report last week said that it did not have access to evidence from the UK authorities. And it presumably means we will now never know any more about this? The accessing of files from 'IP addresses in Russia & other areas of the CIS'.

Bit baffled by this. None of us knew he was missing. Also, what operation? Also, you’re reporting this not as rumour or a ‘source’ but as fact meaning..it’s confirmed? From number 10? You went to them or it was deliberately leaked? If so, why without attribution? Why now?
Not my intention to be rude, FYI. It just seems like we’re only getting half the facts here. You must have asked, ‘what kind of op?’ Unless you already knew? If you don’t know, fine. And if you know & are not divulging for privacy reasons, fine. But can’t you say which?
And if this has been strategically leaked to you, can’t you say? Or if it’s not been strategically leaked, can’t you say? It makes a difference. And you know. But you’re not letting on. So it creates this weird situation where we have partial info but without context..

Two extraordinary stories collide this week. The Senate Intelligence report on Russia. And the deeply sinister poisoning of Navalny. And there’s a figure who connects them both. And us: Oleg Deripaska.

You need to watch this video. And I’ll explain..

Navalny isn’t just the main opposition figure in Russia. He also does extraordinary investigations into Kremlin corruption & is a gifted storyteller. The video is in Russian but has subtitles & tells an amazing story with footage taken on Deripaska’s yacht
rferl.org/a/russia-derip…
So many disturbing aspects to this. Deripaska was named in Senate’s report as proxy of the Kremlin who conducts influence operations abroad. There are pages & pages about him & his associate a Russian intelligence officer & their r’ship with Trump’s campaign manager Paul Manafort

I am angry, despairing, alarmed & ashamed. The sheer depth of investigation & extent of material that relates to UK is overwhelming. This is volume 5. It has 966 pages! Compare it to tumbleweed here. Think of lengths Johnson went to suppress #RussiaReport. Words really do fail
I'm going to come back to this tomorrow. But there are some really really big takeaways already:

1) Paul Manafort worked with/used(?) Arron Banks's business partner Frank Mermoud to execute pro-Kremlin plan for Ukraine drafted by its ex-president Viktor Yanukovych Image
2) Paul Manafort passed polling data to Kilimnik, a Russian agent, including detailed strategy for battleground states & tactics. The data was processed by Cambridge Analytica. Manafort & Kilimnik considered it to be of crucial importance ImageImageImage

Wow. A lot to digest here. But reading new Senate Intel report about Paul Manafort's relationship with Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian intelligence officer, & who should pop up but Frank Mermoud. This has never been properly explored. But Mermoud is Arron Banks's business partner
Frank Mermoud became a director of Arron Banks's private intelligence firm Precision Risk & Intelligence in July 18 & resigned March 19.
Mermoud is described as doing 'outreach' for the Ukrainian government including at the RNC convention in 2016 (which Farage attended), making introductions to Manafort & Ukrainian officials & trying to set up meeting between Trump & Ukrainian president
