One year ago, three Na'amodniks dressed as elephants disrupted a pro-occupation education event in London.

It was the launch of our first campaign (The 🐘 in the Room) and we could never have predicted how much we have grown and achieved since then.

A thread 👇
We launched our campaign, and our movement, because we could no longer keep schtum as our communal institutions actively and tacitly supported the occupation.

So we took a stand - at StandWithUs, the Board of Deputies, the Zionist Federation, Regavim and more.
We took our message to flagship communal events including the Liberal Judaism Biennial and Limmud Festival, where we organised an anti-occupation social for attendees.
As the threat of annexation loomed, we led efforts to respond with #ActionsNotWords by taking our message right to our national and communal seats of power.

And when annexation was suspended, we made sure our community knew that stopping annexation was a moment.

Ending occupation is the movement.
We were the only Jewish group to call for Tzipi Hotovely to be rejected as Israeli ambassador, shaping the debate in communal, national and international media.
We've organised webinars with some of the leading voices on Israel-Palestine and the occupation, including Peter Beinart and Breaking the Silence, demonstrating the sort of honest Israel education our community deserves.
Our organising has struck a chord with so many other British Jews.

We've held nine orientations for new members since our launch, and our membership has grown six-fold (with no sign of slowing).
We've achieved all of this as an entirely grassroots, volunteer-run movement.

Now we're ready to build on our successes and end our community's support for the occupation for good.

Tonight we are blockading the entrance to an event by far-right Israeli settler group Regavim, hosted by UK Lawyers for Israel. The hate and destruction promoted by Regavim should have no place in our community.
For @UKLFI to host an organisation which works to displace Palestinians by demolishing their homes is a blight on our community’s morals. Racism and hatred must be fought everywhere.
Tonight as we blockade we sing verses from Psalms and recite the Jewish prayer for the home, birkat habiyit. Our work is inspired by our community’s history and values. There is nothing Jewish about home demolitions.

Tonight Na’amodniks disrupted the Zionist Federation’s annual Balfour Lecture. @ZionistFed dedicates itself to defending, denying & distracting from the 🐘 in the Room. So we came to tell them: the occupation is a moral crisis, and we won’t let you ignore it.
@ZionistFed The @ZionistFed claims to promote “the real face of Israel”. To them, this face doesn’t doesn’t feature the millions of Palestinians living under military occupation—except, that is, when they can be cast as terrorists. 2/8
@ZionistFed The @ZionistFed happily defends the occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, and acts as a mouthpiece for some of the nastiest and most brazen anti-Palestinian activists in the UK. 3/8 bit.ly/3220v0s
