Attorneys for @GovRonDeSantis late last night filed - like at 11:57 p.m. - responded to SCOFLA on Francis appointment battle. At 12:22 a.m. lawyers for governor asked for oral argument in the case
The governor's legal team is asserting that Rep. Thompson erred by asking him to choose someone else on finalist list other than Francis. Says governor should still have a chance to appoint Francis (even though the court already said she was ineligible.)
Then the legal team for the governor has an entire section on whether the governor made an appointment or merely announced an appointment
And attorneys for governor say he could not name a new justice right away & would require "due diligence" to do FDLE background checks, review cases, do new interviews....
The final part: @GovRonDeSantis - who has bragged about the appointments he made to SCOFLA and how he restored the balance - has said in his latest filing that the court would violate separation of powers if it forced him to pick someone other than Francis

On the same day that @realDonaldTrump says schools must open in fall @EducationFL Commissioner @richardcorcoran issues an executive order ordering it to happen...and this might be...
@realDonaldTrump @EducationFL @richardcorcoran The tipping point. Commissioner Corcoran is an unelected official using @GovRonDeSantis emergency power to override elected school boards/superintendents
@realDonaldTrump @EducationFL @richardcorcoran @GovRonDeSantis The reason this is so fascinating? Because apparently the governor and state officials were hesitant to close schools for elections - and if you recall they gingerly asked schools to close in spring...

So a bit of a boom.....
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday took steps to help localities prepare for what could be high voter turnout this year, but stopped short of extending early voting or letting counties consolidate polling places in the battleground....
DeSantis called on schools to close during the August primary and November general election to make room for what might be record voter turnout. He also issued an executive order that makes it easier for state employees to work at the polls on Election Day.

.@FLGovScott has issued an exec order that appears to tell local authorities to not enforce the beach access bill that he signed into law. 🤔
In a release @FLGovScott says the new law he signed has caused “considerable confusion” & says he’s committed to keeping beaches open & he even urges prosecutors to keep beaches open
Maybe this is where one asks whether @FLGovScott office vetted the bill before signing it into law - or sought input from those who warned about it
