important note: these are just things the *platforms* should do this election season.

this is NOT an agenda for big tech reform, nor a substitute for critical work being led by @CommonCause, @civilrightsorg, @LawyersComm, @ColorOfChange, & so many others to protect the election.

our plan is extensive, but want to highlight a few key proposals

1) platforms should implement an Election Integrity Strike System, progressively limiting the reach & impact of serial misinformers at the account, group & site level.

2) Platforms Poll Watchers –– create specialized verification labels for state election directors & NGOs with expertise in voting rights or disinfo, allowing them to promote credible information, flag misleading content, & counter-message false narratives in real-time.

3) after polls close, platforms should implement Violence Prevention Preclearance –– use AI to flag election-related content from accounts with 250K+ followers for rapid human review & preempt posts that violate violence incitement or civic integrity policies before they publish.

there's a ton of other proposals – from correcting the record for users exposed to voting misinfo & adding context/friction, to limiting algorithmic tools & releasing weekly election integrity transparency reports.

all are cumulative & should persist until results are certified.

as a former engineer on Facebook's Election Integrity team made clear in our press release, these things are all very possible –– but only if platforms have the will to protect our democracy, and enforce rules fairly & consistently, rather than pandering to the loudest voices.
