Thread: Heading into work today to try to do a job that the law describes one way but my HSE job contract describes completely differently. If I & other #publichealth specialists in Ireland work to our HSE job contract we cannot provide an appropriate response to #COVID19 1/9

I will for now continue to work as a consultant despite the fact that my employer @HSELive @CcoHse @paulreiddublin does not recognise or acknowledge the job I & other #publichealth specialists do 2/9

The last 24hours have been incredibly upsetting. Heading back into work today when the state @DonnellyStephen @roinnslainte @ronan_glynn @mmcgrathtd @MichealMartinTD has publicly turned their back yet again on #publichealth despite previous platitudes is so so difficult 3/9

We are asking for a contract @HSE_HR that actually describes the job we should be & are doing. We are asking for our employer & state to recognise the need for #publichealth consultant leadership in the health services @IMO_IRL @SusanMitchell_ 4/9

We are asking for a consultant contract to sustain our profession, to secure young talented doctors who want a career in #publichealth but who want & deserve terms & conditions that reflect their training @RCPI_news @EmerShelley 5/9

We are asking for a consultant contract to provide a consultant-led public health function & service for the population. This is what our population deserves. That they have been denied this yet again by @HSELive @paulreiddublin @DonnellyStephen @mmcgrathtd IS WRONG 6/9

We stepped up! My working day now extends to 9pm. I now work weekends despite not being contracted to do so. Everyday I & other #publichealth specialists go above & beyond our job contract to protect the population. I for one don't know if I want to keep doing this @IMO_IRL 7/9

I want a job contract that actually describes what I do. I want my employer @HSELive @paulreiddublin to recognise that. I want the State @roinnslainte @IRLDeptPER to finally invest in #publichealth to protect & serve their population which is the State's job! 8/9

Is this too much to ask @IMO_IRL? I think not. But after years fighting for this & enduring decades of disrespect, disregard, & public humiliation, I am tired & have had enough & I think I may not be alone in feeling this way 9/9
