OVER 2.6 MILLION ACRES BURNING ACROSS CALIFORNIA: California Governor Gavin Newsom holds a news conference after surveying wildfire damage from the North Complex Fire. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…
Over 2.6 million acres have burned throughout the state, as an eerie orange haze has swept the entire west coast due to smoke rising into the atmosphere.
Newsom has frequently pleaded with Californians to listen to evacuation orders, stressing the seriousness of this year’s fire season. ‘Six of the 20 largest wildfires in California history have occurred in 2020.
If you are asked to evacuate please do so immediately,’ he tweeted. The fires this year are another sign of the growing climate crisis, as the state has battled massive heatwaves, long droughts, and now some of the largest fires it’s ever seen.

Four years ago today, fans began to notice then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick silently protesting during the national anthem by remaining on the bench rather than standing with the rest of his team.
When asked about his decision after the game, Kaepernick told the press, ‘I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color...
...To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.’

Jacob Blake’s mother Julia Jackson: ‘We really just need prayers. As I was riding through here through the city I noticed a lot of damage, it doesn’t reflect my son or my family...
'If Jacob knew what was going on as far as that goes, the violence and the destruction, he would be very unpleased. So I’m really asking and encouraging everyone in Wisconsin and abroad to take a moment and examine your hearts.'
'Citizens, police officers, firemen, clergy, politicians: Do Jacob justice on this level and examine your hearts. We need healing. As I pray for my son’s healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—I also have been praying even before this for the healing of our country.'

This week, the United States Postal Service warned 46 states and Washington, D.C., that it cannot guarantee all ballots for the November election will be delivered and processed in time to be counted due to overwhelming demand. Image
Thomas J. Marshall, general counsel and executive vice president of the USPS, notified the states of this possibility last month, explaining that their established deadlines for requesting and returning ballots are ‘incongruous’ with the Postal Service's current bandwidth.
Some parts of the country are expecting up to 10x the normal volume of mail-in ballots due to the pandemic, putting extra strain on the cost-cutting org. A spokesperson said that the org is simply ‘asking election officials & voters to realistically consider how the mail works.’
