Yesterday govt claimed in parliament that they are doing everything to provide education to the vulnerable.
Some insights from @OxfamIndia survey from five Indian states to assess state of schools during pandemic. indiaspend.com/over-80-parent…
80% of parents with children studying in government schools reported that education was “not delivered” during the lockdown. In Bihar, 100% of the parents interviewed voiced this view.
Only 8% have received cooked mid-day meals. Yesterday govt also confirmed in parliament that they have been unable to deliver mid-day meal but food security allowance & dry ration delivery is not great either.
Whoever managed to receive instructions / education during the pandemic, WhatsApp and calls have been popular mediums but with challenges like low speed/ no internet.
84% govt school teachers faced challenges in delivering education with 40% teachers lacking device to deliver education themselves.
Number is 80% in UP!
Teachers say textbooks are must to continue education. However the central govt hasn't provided any data on textbook delivery yet.
Lok Sabha Q&A says e-content has been provided

All teachers are worried about the safely of children as schools lack WSH facilities and some are being used as quarantine facilities.
This is significant. 40% of teachers believe that a third of the students won't come back to school. Govt needs to take concrete steps to combat huge spike in dropout rates.
Teachers are essential frontline workers yet they haven't been given PPE or hazard pay. Almost none of them are protected by insurance.
On the other hand, private schools have continued their loot despite govt notifications and orders around fee hikes.
This shows we need strong legislation to regulate private school.
Parents in states with fees related notification show lower rate of fees collection than state with no notification against fees collection.
This shows that govt orders and notifications work if desired.
Today Education Minister told parliament that Rs 5,700 crore have been allocated school education to “mitigate the effects of Covid-19”. It includes Rs 818.17 crore to promote online learning and Rs 267.86 crore for online teacher training @fayedsouza
Many teachers spoke abt need of training, devices & datapacks to conduct classes. Yesterday education minister announced additional grants for the same. deccanchronicle.com/nation/current…

When 84% households have reported reduction in income, the budget has provided subsidies, tax holidays & incentives to businesses & startups instead. #FightInequality
Despite govts all over the world imposing COVID tax & 78% people in @FightInequality supporting 2% COVID cess on the rich, the #Budget2021 failed to do so. Instead GoI has 80,000 crores shortfall to meet expenditure targets which will be met through private market borrowings!
All headlines speaking abt exponential increase in spending have to be read carefully. The overall #Budget2021 has increased only by 1 percent from the revised estimate of 2020-21 with cut in education budget. indianexpress.com/article/india/…
Recognizing the imp role of frontline health workers & public health system during pandemic, overwhelming majority wants health insurance & social benefits to them. #बजट_बराबरी_का #BudgetForEquality #FightInequality
88% want an urban employment guarantee scheme, along the lines of MNREGS to be setup; for urban Muslims, the support for such a demand is even more overwhelming, at 96%. #बजट_बराबरी_का #BudgetForEquality #FightInequality
