Barbados, like Ja, other CARICOM states have flirted with this before. In 1998 a Barbados constitutional review commission recommended republican status: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/…

Barbados, though, has removed the UK-based Privy Council as its final court of appeal. The Caribbean Court of Justice is now the nation's highest court.

AP: All New York City public school teachers and other staffers will have to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, officials said Monday as the nation’s largest school system prepares for classes to start next month.

The city previously said teachers, like other city employees, would have to get the shots or get tested weekly for the virus. The new policy marks the first flat-out vaccination mandate for city workers in the nation’s most populous city.
About 148,000 school employees — and contractors who work in schools — will have to get at least a first dose by Sept. 27, according to an announcement from Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio and the city health and education departments.

Edward Gabbidon, the CEO of SynCon Technologies, has been serving as chairman of the Trust since April 3, 2017, and was last month reappointed for another term by Prime Minster Andrew Holness.
For the period of his chairmanship, Gabbidon’s company has won at least eight contracts, worth approximately $38 million, according to the Integrity Commission’s quarterly contract report.

The July 23 decision was inked by then Minister without Portfolio Leslie Campbell, working out of the Office of the Prime Minister, in favour of Bengal Development Limited/Jamaica World LLC, which was denied an environmental permit on May 8. Minister can accept appeal under law.
The permit authorises Bengal Development Limited to mine and quarry bauxite, peat, sand, minerals – including aggregate, construction and industrial materials, and metallic and non-metallic ores.
