ATTN GAMERS: this summer President Trump wrote an executive order asking for "clarification" on section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, and you should be paying attention closely.
CDA 230 is often referred to as the 26 words that formed the internet. It is the regulation that grants Platform Immunity. forbes.com/sites/abrambro…
It says that platforms like Twitch & its users can't be sued for what *other people* say or do. Trump's "clarification" aims to destroy this immunity, & thus gaming as we know it.

The FCC comment period closes THIS WEEK. Tell them to protect Section 230: saveonlinefreespeech.org

Amy Goodman of @DemocracyNow interviews Juan González of @Public_Citizen about their new report on @amazon profiteering + price gouging during the pandemic. #InvestigateAmazon democracynow.org/2020/9/15/pand…
Key findings include:

•Amazon set prices of products during the COVID-19 pandemic to levels that would be considered violations of price gouging laws in many states.

•Amazon has misled the public, law enforcement, and policymakers about price increases during the pandemic.
• Numerous examples of price increases were found on essential products on Amazon, some as much as 1000% over the expected price.

• Amazon publicly blamed so-called third-party sellers for price increases while continuing to allow third-party sellers to increase their prices.

This month, US courts ruled that the government's massive spying program was ILLEGAL, vindicating @Snowden for blowing the whistle on the government’s crimes. So why is this hero still exiled and living in fear of prosecution?

#PardonSnowden

1/12

For years, the US government abused the PATRIOT Act to spy on the phone calls, emails, and Internet activity of millions of Americans … without a warrant. That threatens our basic human rights and makes us all less safe.

The government kept the public — and Congressional lawmakers — in the dark about their secret spying until @Snowden risked his safety and his freedom to reveal details about this dangerous mass surveillance program.

Last night, sex workers in Oakland sent a clear message to @KamalaHarris on her home turf: her vote to advance the #EARNITAct was a betrayal.

The EARN IT Act is SESTA/FOSTA 2.0.
The good thing is that @KamalaHarris can join @Wyden in opposing this trainwreck of a bill. #NoEarnItAct

You, reading this, can tell your reps how you feel now at noearnitact.org
We are hearing that #EARNITAct sponsors may try to force the bill through the Senate this week. They are trying to be sneaky because this bill never was about exploited kids. It's about censorship and ending essential online freedoms. #Section230

Today, we #Remember911. In 2001, the US experienced one of the greatest tragedies our nation's history. We mourn those who were lost, & we honor the heroic first responders who risked their health & safety to serve the American people.

But we also need to remember the fallout.
Six weeks after 9/11, Congress passed the #PATRIOTAct before lawmakers even had time to read the bill. Unfortunately, this new law extended government spy powers to allow data collection on everyone in the US - no probable cause or warrant required.

For years, government officials told the public that the PATRIOT Act was an important law that helped America’s intelligence agencies fight dangerous terrorists overseas. But they were lying to us. They were even lying to Congress. businessinsider.com/james-clapper-…

BREAKING: The EARN IT act just passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. This deeply flawed bill would give the DOJ and a panel of unelected mostly law enforcement officials unprecedented power over the Internet.

Contact your Senators now. NoEarnItAct.org
There were several amendments added to the bill at the last minute. None of them address fundamental flaws with this bill, which could easily be abused to deter companies from offering end-to-end encryption technology that keeps people safe, and threatens free expression online.
Here's a breakdown of how the Managers Amendment pushed by Lindsey Graham actually made the EARN IT act even worse: cdt.org/insights/amend…

If you are protesting right now, the government wants to spy on your digital communications. Join activists and fight back. Contact Congress NOW to stop the EARN IT Act.
For years, the government has abused anti-terrorism surveillance programs to spy on Black Lives Matter & other activists, lying about the “potential threat” posed by people who are advocating for basic human rights. That’s wrong.

Even more disgusting, President Donald Trump is ramping up persecution of his political opponents, falsely labeling anti-racist and anti-fascist protesters as terrorists.
