Recap: The church is the ground and pillar of truth. As believers, we make up the church hence there are certain traits and conducts required of us. Last week we considered Simplicity and Sincerity. Today, we look further to learn other traits we must possess as true believers.
SUBMISSION (John3:8): A believer should be workable and teachable not having a rigid mind. If indeed Jesus is your LORD, you should learn to say YES to Him at all times.
In the book of Acts, Peter was able to receive the ministry of the Gentiles because though He had a preconceived notion that the ministry of Jesus was for the Jews alone, he obeyed when he saw the vision that was shown to him.
Submission to God's will and counsel is the hallmark of every believer. If you're strong opinionated, it shows the level of your spiritual growth.
Always remain open minded to the instruction of the Holyspirit.
We should also learn to obey those who serve as leaders over us ( Pastors, Bishops).
SOBRIETY (Titus 1:8): Being Temperate, Moderate in all things, Showing no excessive qualities, Not addicted to anything, Not going to any extreme.
A believer should not throw caution to the wind. Let Christ be seen in you at all times. Others should be able to follow your example.
In Mark 6, King Herod threw caution to the wind and that cost the life of John the Baptist.
SELF CONTROL (Titus 1:8): This is also a fruit of the Spirit. Moses, the meekest man on earth (Numbers 13:2), still had issues with one thing-self control.
No matter how powerful you are, you need something to keep you controlled and in check (James 3:4).
Anyone who is not self controlled is a disaster waiting to happen. Uncontrolled energy leads to disaster.
To the youths: Serve the Lord in the days of your youths, channel your energy and passion towards a good course.
SUPPORT: A believer should be a support for the work of the ministry and the gospel. Make sure your life is a support to wherever you have decided to serve.
Even in Jesus' ministry, certain women supported (Luke 8:1-3). Dorcas (Acts 9: 36-39), supported the believers with her resources and even when she died, help rose on her behalf. Barnabas (Acts 4), was a source of support to the work of the ministry.
2Corinthians 9, God is able to raise financiers for the kingdom. Be a strong support for the ministry with the resources God has committed into your hands.
Be a believer who possesses the right conduct that Christ be seen in you at all times.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to pattern my life according to your word. Grant me grace to submit to you and to every God given authority. Help me Lord to be sober minded and to maintain self control at all times. I receive grace to play my part in the body.
In areas where this word has brought about correction, I repent Lord and decide to make amends where necessary. Help me Father to continually yield to the transformation your word brings at all times.
Thanks for joining us this morning. Our prayer is that we remain proof producers of God's word.
Wednesday is another time to be blessed of God. Join us for our Hotline to Heaven service by 5pm. God bless you.
God is not a man that should lie. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Some things are consistent with the nature of God.
1. It's not in the nature of God to fail. Psalm 77:8
God has proven overtime that He never fail.
Rest your mind when you have promises from God, they will ALL come to pass. Isaiah 55:11
2. It's not in His nature to abandon His own. If you're on God's side, He will never abandon you. Psalm 37:17,25
God can show up in ways you don't imagine but He will never abandon you. Psalm 37:39
If the cross has no meaning to you then you don't have the faith yet.
The gospel of Christ is not outside the cross.
The cross of Christ is a place of encounter with Christ.
The cross is a place of an exchange where new life is obtained.
The cross is a place where our sin is exchanged for righteousness.
The cross is a place where we enter God.
Essence: the property, the most significant element, quality or aspect of a thing or person.
Element of Mercy.
Mercy is a reality in God given to us by the sovereignty of God. It shields us from what we truly deserve. Exodus 34:6, Lamentations 3:22
