To respond to #COVID-19 misinformation & provide support to communities from scientists @COVID_19_Canada is now conducting kitchen table-style virtual discussions in communities & posting open access "explainers" translated into multiple languages covid19resources.ca/explained.html
Communities who would like to hold kitchen table-style #COVID-19 discussions (in any of all major languages spoken in Canada), you can request scientists here: covid19resources.ca/requestvolunte…

We try to place volunteers already connected to communities to build longterm relationships.
Media, newspapers, journalists etc in under-served regions, you can publish our #COVID-19 Science Explained pieces free of charge if you credit us (pls let us know).

Scientists who want to contribute pieces pls go here: covid19resources.ca/explained.html
We recruit volunteer science translators & communicators from the @COVID_19_Canada volunteer database.

You can sign up to volunteer w/ translation or #COVID-19 science communication here covid19resources.ca/Volunteer.html
We also provide volunteers across #Canada for any community, organization, initiative needing help w/ their #COVID-19 response. This help can be science-related, but we also just get people out who can do things like deliver meals, get groceries etc.

At the Calgary Stampede, two traditions are going strong

– Pancake Breakfasts and Big Barbecue Lunches.

But … how risky is it to go? A blue-bordered image by COVID-19 Resources Canada with inset frame. You have to start the day with pancakes, of course.

That means lining up, allotting about a half hour to move up, tantalising aromas of the cooking food entertaining you, till you get to have your own plate full.
After a successful venture obtaining delicious food, could be pancakes or a pile of barbecued ribs, burgers and sides, our second scenario looks at sitting down and enjoying it.

Please bear with me. It's been nearly a year since I've done this thread myself, since volunteers usually tweet it out on Forecast weekends from my account.

I'm doing a shorter version of what usually goes out, without ALT text (sorry, sorry!).

A post about:

🔵Canadian COVID-19 data reporting
🔵How the Canadian COVID-19 Forecast has been changing in recent months in response to disappearing data
🔵How we're preparing to do a Forecast even if we lose all weekly reporting except waste water from @GovCanHealth Image
@GovCanHealth This will be a long post, and we have a three hour meeting starting in 20 min, so you might want to bookmark the thread, because I'll be doing that thing where I ramble on and off for hours.

And I'm deeply angry, which means I'll be on a tear for a while.
@GovCanHealth I won't translate this thread to French as I write, but if you want a French translation to share with people who don't read English, please let me know.

I (with help from translation volunteers) can do this, but it might take an extra day if the thread is long.

Summer Stampede Safety

SCENARIO BASICS

It’s June and summer activities are gearing up.

Those big events, like the Calgary Stampede, are right around the corner.

But how risky is it to go? A blue-bordered image by Covid-19 Resources Canada with inset frame. Title: Summer Stampede Safety Image: drone photo of an outside concert, densely packed crowd, white tent in the centre. Text in a blue box on top left: Big Crowds! 2.5 hours at the packed outdoor concert. There’s 100 people in a 20 foot area and you’re right in it! Reduce your risks with a good mask. This scenario takes one of the big events that happen at the Stampede, a densely packed Outdoor Concert.

The crowd is probably about 5,000 concert-goers.

If you attend, you'll be one of 100 people standing in a 20 foot square area.
As seen in the photo in the illustration, that’s dense.

In fact, the calculations of crowd density used in this scenario were taken from that photo to use as a reference.
