2-DDRB has overseen real-terms pay erosion of all doctors over the last decade
-Consultants over 30%
-Other hospital based drs 22%
-Contractor GPs 26.8%
-Salaried GPs 24.5%

3- Recent pay award for NHS doctors is just not acceptable
-Giving consultants pay rise equating to just £20 per week in take-home pay for some is indeed unacceptable
-GPs and junior doctors not getting any pay rise is just scandalous!

4-Some colleagues still think that DDRB is an independent arbitrator & hence it is helpful to keep engaging

24% of NHS doctors in a recent survey I did👇still believe DDRB is an independent body

Let me explain why this is not the case.......

5-Royal Commission on Doctors&Dentists Remuneration laid down principles for formation of DDRB in1960

Lets refresh our memory what were those principles:

-two professions, need some assurance that their living standards will not be depressed by arbitrary Government action

6- Principles contd--

- Doctors and dentists pay should not be used as a regulator of the national economy, it must not be held back for fear that others might follow

- Members should be independent persons not committed to the Government’s point of view

-Members of the review body should be appointed by the Government after consultation with representatives of the medical and dental profession and should have the confidence of the profession

-Doctors salaries have not kept pace with the general economy or comparator professionals

-The Current DDRRB appointments have not been consulted with BMA

-Up front ‘remit’ letters were never part of original recommendations of Royal Commission.These should be submitted by Govt as evidence rather than instructions

-Review body members now are largely ex NHS HR managers,CEOs-having backgrounds which would be helpful as experts in submissions from Govt perspective rather than being independent assessors & they do not have the confidence of the Profession
