I’m glad the speculations have ended and there is a confirmation from both sides today that my association with @JKPC_ has come to an end.
This is something that has evolved over the last couple of months due to my differences on certain stands and issues.

In @sajadlone I have always sought and found an elder brother and a mentor and I will continue to cherish my personal bond and association with him.
I respect him and hold him in high esteem and that will remain unchanged.

I however - strongly - believe that the party’s investment in the Gupkar Declaration is and will be reciprocated only by insincerity and disingenuity by the JKNC - and this time will prove.
NC’s blatant insincerity started with SMC but won’t end there.
Mark my words.

I am of the firm opinion that we can’t allow August 5th to whitewash history and assume our history starts here. The complicity of today’s vanguards and yesteryear’s facilitators of erosion and disempowerment - that cant be erased or wished away.
That’s the limited point.

Art 370 was amended and eroded thought Presidential Orders in 1950, 1952, 1954 and in addition to this FORTY-SEVEN Presidential orders were issued between 11 February 1956 and 19 February 1994 to render Art 370 ornamental.
Apparently nobody is culpable and responsible.

In May, 1956 the titles of Prime Minister and Sadr-i-Riyasat were officially changed to Chief Minister and Governor, respectively.
In 1975, Prime minister Indira Gandhi and Sheikh Abdullah signed “Kashmir Accord”, reemphasizing J&K was an integral part of India.

It was here (in the backdrop of the “Kashmir Accord”) in 1975 when Indira Gandhi said the “clock cannot be put back in this manner” to pre-1953 relations between the Indian Union and J&K, suggesting that a referendum (a demand by the Plebiscite Front) is not possible.

Started very young in politics - for someone whose father wasn’t in politics. Was 25. Been a daunting struggle and climbed a steep learning curve. Some wins, some losses.
Sticking around in bad weather - committing yourself to the people — takes a lot of conviction.

While @shahfaesal’s decision is his personal right - one he is entitled to take - and while we should respect it without conjectures & judgments —-
this is a somber reminder that there is more to politics than moralism, idealism and stentorian rhetoric.
It’s a tough life.

Those of our generation in Kashmir’s mainstream politics who were born to Ministers and MLAs and inherited their places in politics (and businesses) might find the occasional cruelness/thanklessness of public life strange.
Others - like Faesal or me - live it and endure it.

Along with 42 elected Hon’ble Corporators of the SMC, have moved a joint petition in the Hon’ble High Court of J&K - seeking intervention to stop the undemocraric, unlawful continuation of the incumbent Deputy Mayor in office despite a ‘No Confidence Motion’ against him.
1/n
This is also an occasion to reiterate our commitment to a sustainable stability in the SMC and seeking of Mayoral elections without any further delay.
Following the filing of our joint petition today, calls are being made to some Corporators - harassing and coercing them.
2/n
Since the petition is now listed and awaiting hearing in the Hon’ble High Court, such attempts are futile as also tantamount to contempt of court.
This is a significant step towards bringing SMC back on track of stability and governance.

It’s been 11 days since 38 elected Corporators of the SMC filed a motion of ‘No Confidence’ against the incumbent Deputy Mayor.
As per law, he has to prove his majority on the floor within 48 hours. It’s been 11 days and he has been allowed to used Mayoral powers! 1/n
While the #COVID situation might not allow an immediate floor test, a sense of propriety and morality would have demanded that the Deputy Mayor stays away from office till his floor test is conducted.
However, from a person of his ilk - that’s expecting too much.
2/n
The question is what’s compelling the administration to allow a person who doesn’t enjoy the support of the Corporation to exercise executive powers?
This is not only in violation of natural law but also the JK Municipal Corporation Act, 2000.
3/n
A Joint Commissioner of SMC has ordained that we are asking questions about SMC’s sudden slumber in #COVID efforts only to stay “relevant”!
Imagine an elected body where representatives can’t ask questions of the SMC administration without officers attributing motives?
1/n
The particular officer is more of a political functionary and less of a government officer in SMC now - and that has been the case for a while now.
I urge the SMC Commissioner to continue to encourage an atmosphere where elected Corporators are free to ask questions.
2/n
SMC Administration is accountable/answerable to the elected body. Browbeating elected representatives and attributing motives to their criticism of efforts to contain #COVID - are in bad taste and unbecoming of government employees.
We need to GO BACK to a comprehensive, multi-pronged approach to deal with the rising #COVID19 cases in Srinagar. No other way to get a grip on the situation.
SMC, Health Department, District Administration need to work at VERY close quarters and do so consistently!
1/n
Designation of containment zones is one measure - not a strategy in itself. Allied measures need to be taken.
Hospitals, large public offices, bank branches and markets are the most vulnerable hotspots and need our focused attention - on a daily basis.
2/n
Multiple cases at JK Bank HQ is a case we need to study and draw QUICK lessons from. We had early warning signs from the JKB HQ - which weren’t taken as seriously as was merited.
Can’t afford a laid back approach - that would negate all combined efforts till now!
