For #My40Days, let’s talk about MINDFULNESS about how we discuss abortion with friends, people who've had abortions, your aunt Linda, your dentist, and so on. Let’s start with a big one: why we’ve (mostly) stopped saying “pro-choice.”
We are ALL about letting people have agency over their decisions. So yes, naturally, “pro-choice” works well for that. #My40Days
But we also have to think about who “pro-choice” leaves out. The healthcare system and the WORLD are effed up and create all kinds of barriers for people who want to be parents. So for some people maybe it’s not a “choice” to have an abortion so much as a necessity. #My40Days
We honor those people and fight for their rights too! #My40Days
Our movement is not just about abortion access, but also reproductive rights, reproductive education, and reproductive care for all. We have to think about how we can create a better world where ALL pregnancy outcomes are respected and supported. #My40Days
And y’all, that includes working towards a world where people don’t have to think “I want to have this baby but I can’t afford healthcare.” EVERYONE DESERVES HEALTHCARE. #My40Days
SIDE NOTE: we can’t go on without saying that Black activists have been doing this work for ONE MILLION YEARS through the reproductive justice movement. #My40Days
Now you might be like “Ugh! What phrase do I have to say NOW?” Calm down with the attitude, friend! This is all in love! Say “pro-abortion.” #My40Days
GASP! Can you believe it? We just said that. When you say you’re “pro-choice,” you probably mean you’re “pro- the right to decide to keep a pregnancy or have an abortion.” AND THAT MEANS YOU’RE PRO-ABORTION. #My40Days
It means a lot to just say “abortion.” SCREAM “abortion.” Added bonus: It really makes those “nobody is pro-abortion” people mad. #My40Days
Saying you’re pro-abortion isn’t saying “I ONLY LIKE ABORTION.” We’re pro-cake but we eat other things too. It’s just saying you support bodily autonomy and you don’t think abortion is shameful. #My40Days
It isn’t shameful. So be mindful of how your language can make people feel. Saying “pro-abortion” makes the right people feel love AND the garbage people feel rage. WIN WIN! #My40Days

#RBG taught us to stand up to sexist ghouls. Now that she's gone, misogynists are twirling their gross mustaches, gearing up to replace her legacy with an anti-abortion extremist!
Said anti-abortion ghouls have started their crusade with a nationwide clinic troll-a-thon called "40 Days for Life." #My40Days
In this annual event, hordes of uninvited Catholic hatesplainers "stand guard" outside of abortion clinics for 40 days and 40 nights. Really, it's just stalking. #My40Days
Badass of the day: Shirley Chisholm! Today is the 49th anniversary of Chisholm entering the Democratic primary, making her the first Black woman to run for president of these United States.
When she ran for Congress, her slogan was “Unbought and unbossed.” She also spoke truth to power when she said, “If you don’t have a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
When she was elected to Congress — also the first Black woman to do that — they tried to hide her on the ag committee, which took her away from working for the people who actually elected her. Still she rose.
Although she was obstructed by the head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (fuck you forever, Scott Lloyd and your creepy period tracking), she did eventually receive her abortion with the help of the @ACLU, activists, and @JanesDueProcess.
So today we thought we’d tweet out her statement from the time as a reminder of why we fight so hard for everyone to get the abortion care they need:
Looking for some positivity in all this darkness? Today we’re launching “40 Days of Possibilities,” a wellness campaign about taking care of yourself WHILE smashing the patriarchy. share.aafront.org/join/1?r=psf#My40Days
Catholic anti-abortion crusaders have launched their annual clinic troll called “40 Days for Life.” For 40 days and nights, they “stand vigil” (ie lurk and harass patients) outside of clinics in a relentless act of cruelty that puts undue stress on patients and staff. #My40Days
We will not let this go unchallenged. If you’ve had an abortion or need one, know that you are strong, powerful and brave and do NOT have to feel bad. With 40 Days of Possibilities, we want to remind you of your value. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. #My40Daysshare.aafront.org/join/1?r=psf
