In 2016, 84% of @CanadianGreens members voted for sanctions on Israel.
So why won't new Green leader @AnnamiePaul speak in support of sanctions, or even answer a straightforward question on the topic? #GPC#GPCLeadership#cdnpoli
In September during the foreign policy debate, candidates were asked whether they support imposing sanctions on Israel. Annamie Paul was one of only 3 candidates who didn't say Yes.
(Glen Murray clarified in a tweet later that he does support sanctions)

Breaking: @AnnamiePaul has been elected leader of the @CanadianGreens. In August, CJPME & @IndJewishVoices assessed Paul's positions on Middle East issues & awarded her a grade of C-.
Annamie Paul is one of only 2 candidates who refused to endorse the MP pledge to oppose Israeli annexation, which was signed by all 3 Green MPs. She refused to respond to our questionnaire. She has no foreign policy on her website.
This is how Annamie Paul responded to a specific question about whether she would support imposing sanctions on Israel. She doesn’t answer the question, other than to say that she prefers dialogue. (During @rabbleca / @ForeignPoli_C debate)
CJPME condemns the detention of Cihan Erdal by Turkey as arbitrary and politically motivated. We call on the Canadian government to demand Erdal’s immediate release, and to guarantee his safe return to Canada. #FreeCihan@FP_Champagne@CanEmbTurkeycjpme.org/pr_2020_09_28_…
CJPME Condemns Anti-Palestinian Prejudice at the @UofT.
We are alarmed by recent actions of the U of T that amount to censorship of critical scholarship about Israel, and should be understood as anti-Palestinian racism.
“It is completely unacceptable that the University of Toronto would submit to external pressure and punish a scholar for their work on Palestine" - @mbueckertcjpme.org/pr_2020_09_23_…
“The effect of the university’s actions is to marginalize and silence Palestinian voices within academia, and to make it much harder to investigate and discuss Israel’s violations of Palestinian human rights. This must be properly understood as anti-Palestinian racism" @mbueckert
In a CBC Radio interview, Canada’s UN Amb. @BobRae48 dismissed a UN report that had named Canadian arms exports to Saudi as perpetuating the conflict in Yemen.
Embarrassingly, Rae referred to Canadian exports of Light Armoured Vehicles as “jeeps.” #StopArmingSaudi#cdnpoli
In the interview, Rae also falsely stated that Canada is “not supplying arms” to the conflict. In 2019, Canada sold Saudi Arabia almost $3b in weapons, including LAVs, large-calibre artillery systems, and heavy machine guns #StopArmingSauditheguardian.com/world/2020/jun…
Breaking: 86% of Canadians disagree with the idea that Canada should overlook Israel’s human rights violations just because it is considered to be an ally.
