NEW: Kim Jong Un oversees 19th meeting of the Political Bureau of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK).
“...the title of the Marshal of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) was conferred on Ri Pyong Chol ... and Pak Jong Chon“
Political bureau of the WPK CC “made a responsible and crucial decision to wage a 80-day Campaign of the entire Party and the whole country so as to glorify the 75th founding anniversary of the Party...”
Kim Jong Un has been *really* quite happy with Ri Pyong Chol and Pak Jong Chon.
Kim Yo Jong appears to be in attendance (barely visible in the left here).
Much clearer here (bottom center).

<THREAD> Another report looking at North Korea’s burgeoning ballistic missile submarine (SSB) program. A few thoughts. heritage.org/missile-defens…
As I’ve said before, the Pukguksong-3 (which we’ve known about since August 2017) is not Kim Jong Un’s “new strategic weapon”. It’s been tested once already and its predecessor SLBM has been tested since 2015. 2/x
The SLBM program is worth taking seriously, but, IMO, the most serious, immediate threat continues to be North Korea’s land-based nuclear forces. 3/x

Very weird to see a WSSIC temporary designator show up in the DoD PRC military power report. AFAIK, this is the first time we’ve seen this for the HQ-19.

Decoding:
CH - China
AB - Anti-ballistic
X - Experimental (pre-IOC)
02 - Second type
The midcourse interceptor referenced in the next sentence is probably the DN-3.
The report includes surprisingly little new information on the DF-17, JL-2, JL-3, and the DF-100 (not mentioned at all).

Quick flight over the suspected Kangson UEP in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
Another view. Pretty amazing how they pull this off.
Yongbyon. But sadly, lower fidelity here.

There are serious proponents in Japan (and elsewhere in Asia) of American post-INF ground-based missile deployments; not one that I’ve spoken to sees targeting Chinese nuclear forces with these capabilities as a priority 1/n asia.nikkei.com/Editor-s-Picks…
You can read some of the rationales here; in Tokyo, there is concern about a “missile gap,” but that describes the imbalance between the PLARF’s ground-based conventional/dual-capable missile arsenal and capabilities available to the US and US allies. thediplomat.com/2019/11/the-us…
For context: no US ally has agreed to base American ground-based missiles that are under development nor have formal consultations on basing been opened with any ally (as far as is publicly known).

I’ve been tough on @US_Stratcom for their ridiculous “Myth Monday” posts, but allow me to say something that comes close to agreeing with one of the points they sought to make this Monday (but not exactly). It concerns this tweet (and others like it from today).
Presumably this person (and others) who saw the footage and were *absolutely convinced* it was a nuclear weapon have received their sense of what a nuke looks like (or should look like) from certain sources.
And there’s a strong human tendency to refer to known examples of things (real and imagined) to explain new, possibly uncertain phenomena (see: availability heuristic).

Jordan Seismological Observatory reports a 4.5M seismic measurement from the Beirut blast. That’s mind-boggling for a conventional, surface-level explosion.
This is so large that it bears waiting for measurements from other seismic monitors.
For instance, @ctbto_alerts’ IMS should be able to contribute to our understanding of this event.
