Around the country, American Muslims like the plaintiffs of Tanzin v. Tanvir bear the brunt of discriminatory government policies and surveillance techniques targeting them solely for their religious affiliation.

In Tanzin v. Tanvir, the issue concerns whether these plaintiffs may be awarded money damages for violation of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Different courts have ruled differently on this matter thus far.

Undermining the ability to seek monetary damages undermines religious freedom.

Without the right to seek damages against those who violate their freedoms, Americans who face religious discrimination are at risk of having no recourse when mistreated by law enforcement.
