A framework to rewire Your brain to transmute negative emotional reactions into positive reactions.
Thread
It is not the adversity, but the way you react to it determines how far you will go in life.
Like many people, my first reaction to tough situations would always be driven by fear.
This hampered my performance a lot.
Then I realized that in order to become a high-value person, I will have to become a high-performance individual.
Like me, one thing that is eroding your performance and stopping you from reaching your highest potential is negativity.
In order to help you beat negativity by feeding the courage wolf inside you,
I am sharing a framework that I personally used to retrain my underlying thought patterns and start the journey from witnessing negative thoughts to starving those thoughts into oblivion.
1. Witness the negative emotional reaction.
The first step lies in realizing the fact that you have been experiencing a negative emotional reaction to a situation.
You may realize it by paying attention to your feelings.
Lean into the negative emotional reaction and experience it fully.
Observe the thoughts associated with the negative reaction & try to find its root.
This way, you come to know what triggers the negative reaction(s).
2. Interdict the reaction with a power statement.
Power statements are phrases/words that shock your monkey mind back into control.
Some examples are:
"Feed the courage wolf!"
"I've got this!"
"Step it up, man."
Using such power statements at the right time not only ensures that the negativity is stopped right in the tracks & does not gain momentum,
But it also ensures that you have started the process of transmuting your emotional energy in the right direction.
3. Redirect your mind with positive imagery and self-talk that is productive for your current goal.
This step consists of directing your focus towards new positive thoughts.
You can do this by visualizing yourself achieving your ultimate goal.
A list of the moments in your life when you achieved something worthwhile should be made by you.
This list can be referred for Step #3 when you feel low and to continue the process of redirecting your mind towards strength.
You can also visualize yourself as a powerful person overcoming your obstacles.
This way you remind yourself that you are stronger than your current situation.
4. Maintain your new mental state with mantras.
Mantras can also be referred to as Affirmations.
In this step, you need to repeat affirmations either verbally or in your mind as per your convenience.
Some examples of Affirmations you can use:
"Every day, in every way, I am getting better & better."
"I embrace change and welcome challenges"
"I have all the strength that I need inside me."
"I am stronger than my circumstances."
This final step ensures that you maintain a positive emotional state even after you have redirected your mental state to a positive one.
Go through this tweet again and again until these steps become a part of you as your name.
The next time you face a tough situation and feel negativity overpowering you, implement these steps and watch yourself overcome even the mightiest of obstacles.
The more you practice this framework, the more automatically you implement it when you are faced with a tough situation.
Once you start practicing this regularly, you will notice that your initial reaction itself to adversity changes from fear driven to courage driven.
