HAPPENING NOW: Activists with Dance for Black Lives have taken over Wilshire Blvd just down the street from LA Mayor Eric Garcetti’s house
Multiple squad cars have arrived in front of the mayor’s house, forming a barricade on his street.
A protester demands a dance with Eric Garcetti.

Activists have formed a dance circle
Police routing westbound traffic off Wilshire
Activists have set up a perimeter of cars to block eastbound traffic on Wilshire
Many, if not most, of the participants have been protesting for weeks and months. This is their second dance. They say this is their way of decompressing and recharging while continuing to protest.
They take a quick dance break for Laura, from White People for Black Lives, to talk about Measure J, which would require 10% of county general funds go toward community programs alts to incarceration.
Laura describes it as a “defund the sheriff measure”
Andy, the man who was struck by a Sheriff’s deputy with a riot shield a few weeks ago, makes his return to the LA protest scene
The dancing continues after an hour, with police nearby & watching, but not interfering
The protesters have set up their own barrier between themselves and the police. Occasionally they’ll dance up to it.
Coming to hour 2 of Dance for Black Lives near Garcetti’s house. A helicopter is hovering overhead, but the dancing continues.
Activists dance to Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright,” a frequent anthem over the last four months of protest
The dancing takes a break for some Taiko drumming. During other actions, these Taiko drummers keep the rhythm for chanting and marching.
Activists lay out 8 demands:
-End qualified immunity
-Settlements paid out of pensions
-Nonviolent 911 alternative
-Independent investigative agcy
-Independent prosecutor for police misconduct
-Minimum education req’s
-Expand training
-Enforce masks req’s
And that’s a wrap on the dance! They’re marching back to the decoy location where they all met up before coming to Garcetti’s.

BREAKING: Attorneys on behalf of protesters plan on filing a temporary restraining order against the LA Sheriffs Department for “excessive force” against protesters, press, and legal observers.
I’ve compiled a thread documenting some of the allegations of abuse.
Context first 👨🏫
On Aug 31, LASD deputies shot & killed 29yo Dijon Kizzee in South LA. LASD says DK was riding his bike on the wrong side of the street, an alleged code violation. 2 officers tried making contact, DK resisted and fled, dropping a bundle of clothes w/ a gun.
Video shows Kizzee running when deputies opened fire, shooting around 15 times. LASD has updated their story multiple times, saying first that he ‘made a motion’ toward the gun, then that he ‘recovered the gun and pointed it.’
Covering a dance protest in WeHo against the LA Sheriffs Department. Currently around 75 people at intersection of SaMo Blvd & San Vicente. LASD, in full riot gear, has blocked off surrounding streets. Dining & drinking continuing in Boys Town.

Protesters have rolled out a long sheet of blank butcher’s paper for anyone to write on.
Tonight, LA Sheriff’s deputies rushed a group of protesters, firing less lethal munitions and flash grenades. For the next few hours, LASD combed through nearby streets for protesters. Sources report 2 arrests. This marks the 8th day of protests for the killing of Dijon Kizzee.
LASD had declared an unlawful assembly—something they reportedly did not do last night before opening fire.
Sheriff’s deputies fired less-than-lethals at protesters in South LA tonight, apparently in response to activists carrying a bookshelf. According to activist sources, there have been 6 arrests. This marks the 7th day of protests of the killing of Dijon Kizzee by LASD.
