Behind police lines in front of Staples Center, where a large crowd in purple and gold chants “Kobe” while shooting off fireworks
Police have used less lethal on one of the crowds
Police pushing forward toward stragglers, firing less lethals as they move. One glass bottle lands far from police.
Crowd throwing bottles at PD. Very loud sound like flash bang.
A woman is injured, allegedly from a beanbag round. A man yells at police for help.
Someone throws fireworks at police
The crowd moved down to Olympic and Figuroa. For a few minutes, more fireworks and dancing before mounted PD advance and fire less lethals.
PD continues to advance down Fig with one man in a No. 14 jersey slow walking a horse
Police aimed at me. Less lethal round literally hits my phone out of my hands (credit to apple, it kept recording)
Lots of motorcycles kicking up smoke. This guy blew out his tire and the crowd goes insane.
Crowd moved up to Flower and 9th. Much more traffic in the streets. PD is back down 9th. I imagine the traffic would make it more difficult to get through.
A Dodge Charger does donuts in the intersection of Flower and 9th until it’s tire bursts and shredded rubber rains down on the crowd
Following an extremely loud explosion that set off car alarms, a group at Hope and Olympic set of a seeming grand finale of fireworks
As the crowd moves up Olympic, some neighbors blast “Fuck Donald Trump” from their balcony and the crowd joins in
A little dance circle in the crowd. One guy seems to get shut down by a woman, though im unclear on why
Police trying to squeeze through traffic on Hope toward Olympic
Police are actually pulling back after a large crowd pushes back, some throwing bottles
Police form a line on Hope and 9th, crowd moves down to flower
Officer tells another, “see a shot, take a shot”
Not a single officer wearing a mask, though they have visors down
People are looting the Starbucks
Police line holding back whole crowd continues to shoot off the loudest ducking fireworks I’ve ever heard
Police form a line on Flower and push crowd down 9th deploying less lethals as people throw bottles
A man holds up rubber bullets and foam-tipped grenades that he’s picked up over the night. Officers do not appear to be aiming at the ground, as per their manual.
Over on Olympic and Grand, where police have set up a line around a vandalized Metro bus
Mounted units moving out
According to an officer on the scene, there were shots fired with one victim.
Vandalized bus that was briefly on fire
This may be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen
Crowd gathered at Flower and 9th around two people who I’m told were hit by less lethals, one person in the neck the other in the mouth
Police form a line on Flower and 9th, arresting a least two people by the looted Starbucks
A witness describes the injury to the man shot in the face with a beanbag round
Officers fire less lethals at loiterers and Olympic and Flower, nearly hitting people eating at a nearby food truck

BREAKING: Attorneys on behalf of protesters plan on filing a temporary restraining order against the LA Sheriffs Department for “excessive force” against protesters, press, and legal observers.

I’ve compiled a thread documenting some of the allegations of abuse. Image
Context first 👨‍🏫

On Aug 31, LASD deputies shot & killed 29yo Dijon Kizzee in South LA. LASD says DK was riding his bike on the wrong side of the street, an alleged code violation. 2 officers tried making contact, DK resisted and fled, dropping a bundle of clothes w/ a gun.
Video shows Kizzee running when deputies opened fire, shooting around 15 times. LASD has updated their story multiple times, saying first that he ‘made a motion’ toward the gun, then that he ‘recovered the gun and pointed it.’
