With #CRISPR being recognized in the #NobelPrize2020 last week, here's a quick look at a dozen books that currently or will cover the science, scientists and ethics of CRISPR and gene editing... apologies if I've missed any {thread}
My new book EDITING HUMANITY takes a fun ride with the "heroes of CRISPR", detailing the research that culminated in the Doudna-Charpentier Nobel Prize. I also cover the #CRISPRbabies saga and the ethics of genome editing. @Pegasus_Books

In 2017, Doudna and @shsternberg published the excellent "A Crack in Creation", part CRISPR primer, part memoir in which Doudna recounts her personal scientific journey and bioethical awakening. @HMHCo

The first book that delved into the CRISPR gene editing story was "Modern Prometheus" (2016) by Jim Kozubek @CambridgeUP. This is of particular interest to insiders.

Arguably the best book on the ethics of genome editing in the #CRISPR era is "Altered Inheritance: CRISPR and the Ethics of Human Genome Editing" (2019) by @FrancoiseBaylis @DalhousieU @Harvard_Press

I highly recommend "The CRISPR Generation" by @kiranmusunuru (co-founder @VerveTx) -- notable for his visceral reaction to being one of the first scientists to see He Jiankui's data. [Only $2.99 on Kindle!]

"Hacking Darwin" by @JamieMetzl is a brisk, engaging read about the future of gene editing and other reproductive technologies.
"If you can read only one book on the future of our species, this is it," says @drsanjaygupta

"Enhanced Beings: Human Germline Modification and the Law" by Kerry Lynn Macintosh was an early look at the gene editing controversy and regulations (2018) @CambridgeUP

Just out is "The Human Gene Editing Debate" by sociology professor John Evans (@UCSD) @OUPAcademic -- a thoughtful analysis of the future of genome editing and where we should draw the line.

Out soon: "The Mutant Project" by anthropologist @eben_kirksey also focuses on He Jiankui and #CRISPRbabies, including some very insightful first-person reporting from China.

In 2021, we have "CRISPR People" by the excellent @HankGreelyLSJU @mitpress to look forward to -- especially if his 2019 essay for @CRISPRjournal is anything to go by:

After @WalterIsaacson wrote a lovely blurb for my own book, I look forward to returning the favor (jk) for "The Code Breaker: Jennifer Doudna, Gene Editing, and the Future of the Human Race" @simonschuster (March 2021).
I've got a hunch it will do well.

In Spanish, "Editando Genes" by @LluisMontoliu (2nd edition June 2020)

.@specterm was one of the first journalists to spotlight CRISPR in the @NewYorker -- his book for @CrownPublishing has likely been delayed while he covers other pressing stories, e.g. Anthony Fauci
npr.org/2020/10/10/922…

It will surely be worth the wait.
Also of note: "Human Flourishing in an Age of Gene Editing" (2019)

... and in Japan, "What is Genome Editing?" by Taku Yamamotu (h/t @YuzuhaOka )
