well yeah, they're not putting games out: Layton's MIA, Inazuma's in dev hell, Snack World had no staying power, Inafune's mobile game utterly flopped, Musashi's still not a sure thing & is yet another media-mix they won't be able to pull off overseas, Yokai Watch has flatlined…
Inafune's mobile game flopped twice, even—when it became immediately clear that it wasn't doing well, they drastically overhauled it in the space of 2-3 months, only for people to not care all over again

oh and they're also "making" "Ushiro", how could I forget
oh and iirc L5IA was reputedly an awful place to work so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can't knock a company for being bullish but they really did flush all that yokai cash down the toilet, didn't they
btw, the last time they showed Layton 7 (five years ago!), it was a mobile werewolf game wearing Layton's skin

Taito's Yuichi Toyama & Katsuhisa Ishikawa, M2's Naoki Horii, Yukiko Karashima, Shinpei Yamada, Tatsuhiko Kasuga & Takayuki Komabayashi, Sega's Yosuke Okunari & homebrew dev Hideki Konishi discuss the production of Darius EXTRA MD famitsu.com/news/202010/13…🇯🇵
picking up from the release of the MD Mini: Taito signed off on Darius MD with the proviso that they had the rights to do as they pleased with it afterwards; the original dev period was short & left M2 with plenty of things they'd like to touch up, & Toyama also wanted to do...
...something else with Darius MD but the 2D Darius Cozmic Collection was already done and it wasn't a good match for the upcoming 3D-focused Darius Cozmic Revelation, so they're releasing it as a separate promo item (an Amazon Prime Day-exclusive with a 48-hour window, icymi)

the Amazon JP listings for Darius Cozmic Revelations are up but they don't currently have the Prime Day bonus listed (a digital PS4 or Switch copy of Darius EXTRA MD, a revised version of the port featured on Genesis/Mega Drive Mini) so maybe wait until they straighten that out
Darius EXTRA MD for PS4/Switch is one of those "buy within the next 48 hours or never get legit access to this thing ever again" promo deals, but it is getting a MD cartridge release as well so it'll be out there one way or another
aight, Darius Cozmic Revelation Amazon Prime Day promo versions are up, get em before 13:59 Oct.14 🇯🇵 time if you want the Darius EXTRA MD DL code

PS4 amazon.co.jp/dp/B08KWGQNX1/
Switch amazon.co.jp/dp/B08KWGBWTL/

the LE/DX links keep going up&down, check for yourself if you so desire

Darius Cozmic Revelation's out in Japan on Feb.25 taito.co.jp/mob/topics/4522🇯🇵

¥6800 for the standard edition, ¥16800 for the LE w/ book, arrange CD, Zuntata DVD & papercraft, ¥22800 for the Famitsu DX ebten pack which also includes Darius EXTRA MD on a genuine Mega Drive cartridge
Darius EXTRA MD is a revision of the Darius Mega Drive port featured on Genesis/MD Mini

they're also using a DL version of Darius EXTRA MD as the Amazon Prime Day promo item—if you want it, ya gotta buy Darius Cozmic Revelation from Amazon JP between 00:00 Oct.13 & 23:59 Oct.14
they're also doing another Proco/Tiat arrange gimmick between stores

this is the 3rd or 4th time Taito's done one of these exclusive limited-window Amazon DL games and they've never made them available elsewhere after the fact, so don't think you'll be able to just buy it later

Sega's classic hardware producer Yosuke Okunari, M2 president Naoki Horii & Game Gear's original external designer Tomoki Kaji talk Game Gear Micro 4gamer.net/games/510/G051…🇯🇵 again, there's been a ton of these interviews recently, so I'll just pick out what seems fresh
how'd COVID affect the production of Game Gear Micro? much of the manufacturing was handled in Taiwan, where they've been on top of COVID from a very early stage, so it wasn't too bad, but problems that might otherwise have been solved by visiting sites directly proved tough
why Game Gear Micro and not __ Mini? their ethos for the Mini is accurate to-scale reproductions of classic hardware; the GG Micro was planned by the merch dept with a much shorter schedule & deliberately wasn't aiming for that same degree of faithful reproduction, hence Micro

for those waking up to the Game Gear Micro just now, a few points

from day one they've positioned the Micro as a charm toy that happens to be playable, not a genuine dedicated gaming experience

they know it's impractical, the absurdly tiny size is part of the draw (cont'd)
every other interview/article has approached Game Gear Micro from the angle of "but can you actually play [game x] like this?" & is usually met with some variation of "well the geezers at M2 were able to do it, so it's not impossible"

regardless, it's sold way above expectations
oh and, bolstered in part by the unexpectedly positive response to the Game Gear Micro, Sega will be producing more substantial, globally-released mini hardware in the vein of Genesis/Mega Drive Mini, so don't think you won't be catered to at some point
