.@BLACKPINK members will soon livestream a global press conference about their upcoming Netflix documentary "Blackpink: Light Up the Sky," joined by the film's director Caroline Suh. The event is media-only but we'll be updating key comments on this thread, so stay tuned Blinks!
Jennie: It felt new even for us to face our young selves. We've only shown the flashy sides of us since our debut, so with the documentary we wanted to share the more ordinary sides of us up close to our fans.
Rose: To be more honest, we all answered in our most comfortable languages. Jennie and I spoke in English, Jisoo in Korean and Lisa in Thai. There's a lot of language, but I think this in itself also symbolizes us.
Rose said she even shed tears from the honest, emotional moments during the shooting, while Jisoo added the documentary will feature behind-the-scenes moments from Coachella.
Jisoo on YG producer Teddy appearing in the documentary: He's perhaps the person who knows us better than even ourselves. He would listen to our opinions and set the best direction for us. Deep inside, I feel like he's the fifth member of @BLACKPINK.
Director Caroline Suh: I wanted to show how this group was born, what kind of paths each of the four members have walked to become @BLACKPINK. I listened to their perspectives and their personal stories. (Translated back from Korean translation)
Director Suh: @netflix and @ygent_official have been working together and this film was the first of their projects. I think Netflix is a fan of Blackpink. I wanted to talk about more personal stories, how the members came to stand at the center of this 'Blackpink' sensation.
As many Blinks would have guessed, the title "Light Up the Sky" comes from the lyrics of the group's hit "How You Like That," explained Rosé, adding that she feels Blackpink shines the brightest when the four of them are together.
Clips from the members' childhood, trainee periods and backstages will be unveiled for the first time thanks to YG, director Suh said, adding the producers had to spend hundreds of hours to view all the footages provided by the agency.
In closing the event, Jisoo said she hopes "Blinks will feel closer to Blackpink with the upcoming documentary."
"Blackpink: Light Up the Sky" will premiere exclusively on Netflix Oct. 14. Hang in there Blinks!
