In answering the puzzle of how ACB can be in the running for SCOTUS while having 7 children it may be useful to remember what older generations knew. In big families siblings looked after each other.
Actually "Christian women with large families" weren't freaks but comprised a substantial percentage of the population of what was called Western Civilization, including the Greatest Generation. The challenge is for moderns to equal their survivability of their predecessors.
If you visited nursing homes when they were open it was striking how many of the Western old was being cared for by Third World staff.

The biggest cause of turnover in Washington for both parties is old age and natural death.

Joe Biden for example was elected to the Senate 47 years ago and was continuously returned until he became veep in 2009. He's typical.

The news cycle in the short term memory of politics. History is the medium term equivalent. The incalculable current of causality is the longest term and remembers everything.

Unable to think for themselves.
The fact these friends, neighbors and relatives is a mystery to him, explicable only by invoking mass hypnosis. The svengali alternative media has these poor souls in their thrall.
How the alternative media can outpersuade the prestigious, slick and powerful flagships of American journalism is never explained. It's as if the SS Minnow sank the Yamato.

The reason things seem surreal and crazy in Washington is the variance between expectations and outcomes. If we await what actually happens things will be clearer and less crazy.
One of the hallmarks of a complexity crisis is that formerly predictable systems become unpredictable and respond in nonlinear ways. This is true not only of Trump but a host of other events in 2020.
What we call the 2020 phenomenon is the result of the intertwining of everything plus rapid technological change. Nothing acts like it used to. A single man, event or bat can have an unfathomable impact.
