One of the best learning frameworks I heard about from @Ready4rigor Zaretta Hammond. A few questions to consider (thread) Image
What level was present in your classroom today?
Do you see different students engaging at different levels? Why is that? Are you blaming the students, the curriculum, or yourself?
What level do we expect in public schools? What level do we settle for? How does our expectation change for privileged kids? Suburbs? “Honors”?
What do we expect of Black children? Why?
How does your task or learning objective influence the level of engagement?
If you centered students of color, would their engagement change?
What do we reward with PBIS school dollars and incentives?
Do our pacing guides allow for deeper learning and higher levels of engagement?
What was your schooling experience like and what did your teachers expect, encourage, or give you feedback on?
If you’re a sage on the stage, can you ever have high levels of engagement?
When marginalized and oppressed students rebel, do you apply deficit lens and racist analysis to the rebellion? How do you try to engage them?
Do we really want a quiet classroom? Who benefits?
How does this mirror society and our expectations of a good citizen or good American?
If we were to grade students on their engagement what would that look like?
Are the students who are receiving A’s, just good at school? Are they compliant or are they authentically engaged?
Would engagement change if you used project-based learning, culturally responsive teaching, ethnic studies, outdoor education, internships, or inquiry-based learning?
What is truly holding you back from these changes? Compliance?
How do these levels of engagement show up our staff meetings?
Have you told yourself, “I am not racist?”
You probably are racist. We all are.
What are you willing to do to be anti-racist and push students to higher levels of engagement, deeper learning, and critical thinking?
What’s holding you back?

Breonna Taylor is still not getting justice and y’all still being neutral? Are you ready to take a stand now? Or are we waiting for another murder, march, & innocent verdict? culturallyresponsiveleadership.com/neutrality/ Here’s 16 issues to fight for in our schools! #DismantleWSC
1) Race, racism, and anti-racism in the classroom. Discuss it.
2) Grading students during or after a pandemic. Abandon it.

Antiracist parents, please be prepared to fight for your brave educators who are fighting for your children. They are teaching critical thinking, love, & democracy. White rage will try to remove them, by hook or crook. Educators will need parents to support them. Be prepared.
Let me be clear, I’m talking about our administrations current attack on ethnic studies, critical thinking, critical race theory, and anti-racism. Parents, you have to choose a side. Choose a side that supports the marginalized and voiceless. Use your privilege.
Watch the news, and see how specific educators and leaders are removed, put on leave, investigated, and accused of all sort of fraudulent charges. This is all a distraction and an attempt to discourage change.

Spending my evening watching the @CityofSSF Commission on Racial and Social Equity. As a resident of SSF and Bay Area educator, I’m VERY interested in this conversation.
So far we’ve had examples of the myth of meritocracy, allusion to flawed and racist bootstrap mentality, and perhaps an attempt at being a medal minority. 🍿
Agreements can be powerful, if we named RACE explicitly, we could:
have a common goal of ANTIRACISM,
Be open to new perspective that challenge WHITE PRIVILEGE,
And be self aware of privilege and WHITE fragility. Image

Our fascist and racist government is trying to outlaw critical thinking and antiracism. If you are a self proclaimed “woke” white person, today’s a day when you get to work towards earning that title. Stand up for racial justice. #DismantleWSC (Thread)
President orange face is calling white privilege training and critical race theory “unamerica”. How will you respond?
This is a clever method to wedge the racial divide. The chasm is forming. Will you still stand with BIPOC?

Good Morning Y'all. We are in a huge growth spurt right now. Pandemic, Systemic Racism, Distance Learning, etc. Growth hurts. But we will come out stronger, better, and more mature. Not sure how long it will last. But for right now, it hurts like hell. (sigh)
Let's be real. Different folks are growing (and need to be) growing at a diff pace. White folks? Yall are *growing* right now. We need more. But I know yall are growing. Then we gonna need a lot more
BIPOC, been grown.
